Team Profile - The Regulatory controller team in Glasgow (Reg) sits within the Finance division and is responsible for executing a series of regulatory capital calculations/processes across market risk, credit risk own funds and leverage. The team is also responsible for the associated internal and external reporting. Given this broad remit the Reg controller team work closely with a wide range of clients and stakeholders globally, e.g. the Credit Risk department, the Market risk department, Operations, Regulatory policy and the Business Unit. This breadth of interaction provides an excellent and somewhat unique opportunity to learn about a range of businesses and products across the firm. Reg Controllers have a footprint in Glasgow, New York, London and Asia. As part of Finance location and business strategy all of the production process will have been deployed to Mumbai/Budapest come the end of 2021 (culmination of a multi-year process). The remit of the retained Glasgow SME team (post deployment) will be to provide UK oversight & accountability for the deployed processes, lead on Regulatory/Business Unit/stakeholder queries and initiatives, provide technical support to the deployed locations and lead on the interpretation and implementation of Regulatory change (e.g. CRRII/CRRII/FRTB). The opportunity
As a result of internal mobility and reorganisation within the group we have a director level opportunity within the team to support the target operating model. The successful candidate will initially support the Market risk capital agenda (developing SME expertise) and in time will also support the Credit risk external reporting agenda. Beyond that the opportunity would exist to rotate within the other functions in the group.
As part of the UK Regulatory organisation (within Global Corporate Controllers) the successful candidate will be accountable for providing client service and quality in partnership with wider Regulatory controller colleagues as well as colleagues within the deployed locations (Integrated Services).
As a director, the successful candidate will work directly with a range of senior colleagues and clients across the UK, Mumbai, Budapest and beyond. They will have the opportunity to influence/drive the end state operating model and the evolution of Regulatory systems and processes.
Detailed responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Identify and execute on opportunities to integrate systems and data across related integrated services functions (efficiency, adjustment reduction etc)
- Drive (in association with other GIC leads & IT as appropriate) the improvement of controls, processes and documentation
- Key UK SME point of contact/driver for governance and compliance activities (e.g. RCSA, RRQA, Audit) within the integrated services function.
- Provide review and governance over outputs from the integrated services functions- developing necessary SME experience in capital process
- Partner (alongside other GIC leads as appropriate) with colleagues and clients (Reg policy, Reg controllers, Credit and Market Risk departments) to interpret & implement evolving regulatory requirements (CTB initiatives such as CRRII)
- Key point of contact/SME for Regulatory queries/initiatives (e.g. IMA/IRB applications, S166 reviews) as well as other key initiatives (e.g. capital optimisations/other BU driven queries)
- Provide technical leadership on self-assessment/compliance exercises (e.g. RCSA, RRQA, Audit etc.
- Partner with hub & Integrated services leads to shape the integrated services operating & governance model (roles and responsibilities, accountability)
- Develop expertise (fungibility) across the Regulatory controller organisation (Market/Credit/Leverage/Own Funds)
Skills required
- Prior experience within global Financial services at director level (or equivalent)
- Hold an Accounting /Finance/Mathematical degree or equivalent.
- Be highly numerate with a close attention to detail.
- Have proven skills in analysing or leading the analysis of large volumes of data/non routine problems in order to extract key themes, solve problems and discover root causes
- Have the ability to work effectively within a local and global team and to work directly with a range of senior colleagues and stakeholders
- Have the flexibility required to work in a dynamic environment under tight deadlines.
- Have a strong awareness/interest in Financial Markets/products and the Regulatory environment.
Skills desired:
- Prior experience in a Regulatory capital role
- Strong familiarity with the following key concepts: Credit Risk, Market Risk, Own Funds, Leverage, Large exposures & general Basel /Regulatory framework
- Candidates should possess excellent Microsoft Excel skills and be proficient in data mining and summarising and presenting themes (including to a senior audience) and results in a meaningful format.
