Description

As Head of Finance you will manage and lead the finance team and successfully deliver all aspects of finance required by the charity. You will ensure that system and processes are robust and deliver maximum efficiency. You will work closely with the wider organisation, building strong internal relationship to ensure the effective management of financial resources. Deputise for the Director of Finance and Corporate Resources.

Key areas of delivery include:

  • Lead, direct and manage the finance team ensuring a professional and proactive service delivery to external parties and all areas of the charity
  • Complete VAT return, calculating figures at individual company level and file in compliance with the making tax digital timetable
  • Take overall responsibility for the yearend audit process and prepare all statutory accounts including consolidated ones for the charity
  • Take overall responsibility for the management accounts and further develop reporting
    Working with the DFCS, review all finance procedures and policies and streamline accordingly.
  • Develop policy and processes when legislation changes such as IR35
  • Take overall responsibility for the budget preparation and pull together the consolidated figures for SLT
  • Review the finance IT systems and work with the DFCS to build a business case for proposed options and follow through on delivery
  • Overall responsibility for the regular reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts
  • Attend relevant internal and external meetings as advised by the Chief Executive and/or SLT and actively participate in the wider leadership team
  • Seek to continuously improve the quality and value that Finance provides to the organisation
  • Communicate efficiently with different customer groupings including senior managers and in particular meet with budget holders as required
  • Understand business processes and have the ability to balance customer needs with business goals in developing and delivering solutions. In particular produce a group wide consistent approach to forecasting
  • A strong commitment to the principles and practice of equality, diversity and inclusion

Profile

The successful Head of Finance candidate will have experience of using accountancy skills to work with a range of stakeholders, at both a strategic and operational level and will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Understanding and commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Willingness to participate in shaping the future of the organisation by taking on responsibilities and projects in addition to core workload
  • Commitment to enabling and empowering clients to become actively involved in the charity
  • Excellent skills in Excel and use of Finance IT systems
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent technical accounting skills with knowledge of RSL and Charity SORP requirements
  • Excellent leadership skills, able to motivate and manage performance
  • Knowledge of VAT and partial exemption rules
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent) with proven experience in a senior financial role
  • Experience of financial management including running the financial accounting function with a strong financial control orientation
  • Business partnering approach experience
  • Experience of managing year end process to timetable and successful audit outcome
