Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Under Armour Europe B.V. ("Under Armour") is looking for a Director, Controller to oversee the EMEA region. This position serves as a critical accounting role who will manage and supervise the entire EMEA Accounting Function across all channels (Wholesale, Distributor, Retail and E-commerce) through the monthly and quarterly close process. Additionally, the EMEA Controller will lead the team through compliance with various internal reporting and analyses while ensuring compliance with local statutory requirements and US GAAP, SEC standards and Sarbanes Oxley. This role will have direct oversight over the general accounting team, the customer financial services team, the accounts payable team and the internal control team in EMEA.

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

Oversight of the EMEA monthly and quarterly close procedures, ensuring close process is accurate and timely
Take the lead within EMEA to coordinate accounting teams, and communicate with Corporate Accounting, Tax, Treasury, Legal and Financial Reporting teams
Oversight of critical judgement & estimate analyses relative to allowance for doubtful accounts, sales returns and allowances, reserves for markdowns, inventory obsolescence reserves and off-invoice discounts
Facilitate the EMEA monthly close meetings with Corporate Accounting team
Lead transformational change within the EMEA Accounting team around automation, accounting policies and procedures
Ensure organization structure and responsibilities are aligned with company growth strategy
Develop and drive processes to streamline and make the accounting organization more efficient
Partner with FP&A and Corporate Accounting teams to align internal management reporting packages across regions
Supervise a direct team of four or more reports and twenty or more indirect reports, providing technical direction and assistance
Facilitate and manage annual statutory audits with our external public accounting firms and annual account preparation/VAT compliance for fifteen or more legal entities
Execute on high priority assignments efficiently and accurately
Respond to sensitive and confidential information with discretion
Develop and maintain strong working relationships and serve as a resource to key stakeholders within Controllership, Legal, Tax, Treasury and FP&A.

Education And / Or Experience

Proven knowledge of managing the closing process
Must be hands-on and detail oriented, while being able to see the big picture
Ownership of VAT compliance requirements within EMEA
Experience or ability to manage annual audits with our external public accountants
Sarbanes-Oxley experience, SEC reporting experience a plus
Team management skills are a priority
Flexible to adapt to change
Strong organizational and time management skills supported by defined processes
Strong oral and written English essential, another European language a plus
Enjoys delivering on complex work in a dynamic global operating environment
Positive attitude and dependable team player willing to "roll up their shirt sleeves" to get the work done
High level of attention to detail
Effective writing, presentation and communication skills.

Other Requirements

  • University degree in Business Administration, Accounting Finance or a related field
  • 10+ years of relevant post-professional qualification experience (such as CIMA, ACCA, CFA, ACA, CPA)
  • Controller experience within a public company, especially US quoted, is strongly preferred
  • SAP accounting system experience preferred
