Summary:  

The job involves working for Northern Trust Alternative Fund Services (“AFS”), a Global fund administrator, specializing in administering assets of hedge funds, private equity managers, managed account platforms investing in alternative strategies and alternative fund of funds.  The successful candidate will be an ambitious self-starter who has demonstrated the ability to function as an effective and strategic member in a dynamic, fast-paced and demanding environment.  This individual will have a strong technical Accounting background, experience working within the Financial Services industry and a proven track record of working well with and leading others.  The Manager will be part of our Financial Control team dedicated to servicing a global, multi-strategy hedge fund with several billion dollars in assets under management. The Manager’s primary responsibilities will include the oversight and execution of reporting deliverables by the Financial Control team and for seeing cross-functional client projects through to completion, from sourcing to execution and rollout.  

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify, develop, and execute on Op Model improvements including major technology initiatives focused on increasing the scalability of our accounting processes and providing solutions to client mandates
  • Act as subject-matter expert on various financial products and client-specific proprietary systems to provide insight on functionality/capability for business problem solving
  • Test and implement new accounting technology solutions to drive efficiency and mitigate risk
  • Operate cohesively with other shared service teams utilizing in-depth knowledge of the business unit and function
  • Partner with senior leadership to support development of a well-rounded high performance team through learning, development, and thought leadership
  • Provide ongoing feedback for both local and international partners as needed
  • Develops periodic goals, organizes the work, sets short-term priorities, monitors all activities, and ensures timely and accurate completion of the work.
  • Role is balanced between high level operational execution and development, and execution of strategic direction of business function activities.
  • Carries out activities that are large in scope, cross-functional and technically difficult.

Knowledge / Skills:

  • In-depth financial product and industry knowledge
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Highly flexible and adaptable to change in a fast paced environment
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications
  • Self-starter with excellent analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage a team of senior consultants and provide oversight, review and serve as an escalation resource
  • Ability to both work independently and provide leadership through coaching and development of junior staff.
  • Client focused and deadline driven

Experience:

  • A minimum of 7+ years’ experience with Investment Management and/or Financial Services; Hedge Fund specific a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Accounting, Finance or equivalent,
  • Master’s degree and/or CPA designation a plus
  • Big 4 public accounting experience or consulting experience a plus
