Within UKRI, the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) provides access to world-leading, large-scale facilities through its National Laboratories and Campuses and supports university based research, innovation and skills development in astronomy, particle physics, nuclear physics, and space science.

The STFC Financial Business Partnering Team has a vacancy for a Band E Senior Management Accountant to head up finance support for the Central Laser Facility (CLF) and also to provide dedicated support to the European Spallation Source project (a major international facility being constructed in Sweden with a UK budget of £165m).Main duties include but are not limited to –

  • Develop, manage and maintain strong working partnerships with STFC Finance Business Partnering team, senior managers, directors and stakeholders across STFC
  • Assist with the compilation of budgets and forecasts
  • Prepare annual budgets at departmental and cost centre levels with thorough documentation of underlying assumptions
  • Produce monthly management reports and ad hoc reports for project managers using management information tools
  • Closely monitor the capital programme, ensuring projects are correctly accounted for from a financial accounting and management accounting perspective
  • Contribute to the financial elements of business cases for new projects and advise on costing and pricing project proposals

You will be a professional in the field of accounting, either by qualification or substantial, relevant experience, and will be able to operate effectively at a senior level.

You will also have significant experience in finance service delivery and problem solving, as well as being able to produce high-level budgets, financial plans and monthly reporting.
