Job Purpose:

  • Responsible for the efficient and effective operational management of credit risk according to policy and direction from credit committees.
  • Responsible for providing authorized approval for release of credit blocked orders and taking credit decisions.
  • Actively support the Sales organization on all Credit related matters.
  • Facilitate credit sessions with LoB Sales Teams.
  • Actively support the Regional Credit Manager and participate in the virtual regional credit teams.
  • Supports on cluster level by leading & supporting initiatives and projects and/or provides support to STM.


  1. Responsibility for Credit Analyses for Shell Global Businesses
  2. Scope complexity: High (Complexity measured by number of supported Countries and /or Customers portfolios)
  3. Credit Limit Approval: (Max USD):  5-10M; assessments for whole portfolio

Main Accountabilities:

a) Manage Credit Activities 

1. Responsible for the efficient and effective management of credit risk according to Downstream Credit Manual (DCM) and direction from the credit committee.

  1. Responsible for providing authorized approval for release of credit blocked orders and taking credit decisions.
  2. Providing assessment of a customer credit risk and recommending terms of credit
  3. Performing detailed financial analysis based on customer financial statements for development of a risk profile of a customer
  4. Analyzing the overall credit exposure
  5. Providing authorized approval for continuing deliveries to customers in case of overdue or credit limit exceeding
  6. Negotiating and managing securities necessary to support higher risk exposures based on a risk reward approach
  7. Resolving credit inquiries and complaints from customers
  8. Managing complex customers’ portfolio
  9. Communicating with internal and external customers in a professional, assertive, and efficient manner

2. Ownership & maintenance of 3rd party contracts in support of credit management activities.

3. Able to provide support in Credit related matters to countries within the Cluster.

b) Accounts Receivable

  • Negotiate & approve refinancing of Overdue Debts.

c) Debt Recovery

  • Responsible for identifying when accounts may require legal intervention e.g. If customer files for bankruptcy
  • Support to Sales
  • Provide interpretation of policy and guide the businesses on the principles of sound credit management.
  • Keep up to date on issues within the businesses by having close relationships with the sales managers and reading information from industry sources.
  • Conduct customer visits where required.

d) General

  • Provide interpretation of policy and guide less senior colleagues on the principles of sound credit management.
  • Ensure compliance to MOA and DCM and take responsibility for Audit coordination and business control reviews.

This role requires strategic thought processes to be able to implement cross-border credit strategies and contribute/manage high profile projects which involve delivering presentations to very senior internal/external stakeholders.

e) Cluster Support

On top of the mentioned responsibilities the Senior Credit Analyst provides cluster level support in terms of leading projects, facilitating CVA Network meetings, and point of contact between CBC (Credit Business Operations) and COC (Credit Operations Center) in terms of questions and cascading information related to the responsible Lines of Business within the cluster.

f) SME role

Active involvement in coordination of various activities or projects on Revenue level, support for Team Managers during recruitment process, knowledge management for new joiners in the process, cooperation with other SMEs to keep end to end process up to date, in line with latest work instructions and compliance guidelines, participation in Credit Committee.

Key Challenges:

This is a high-profile role in the Credit organisation with exposure to senior Finance /Business leaders and third-party customers.

The role requires strong levels of leadership and involves maximizing commercial opportunities where credit can play a part in delivering strong margins whilst taking acceptable credit risks.

This will require creating very good working relationships with the local Sales Teams.

Senior Credit analyst must be able to meet with customers to discuss a range of issues, which can cover high risk, cash flow, and growth potential and still maintain a solid relationship wherever possible.

The ability to negotiate effectively is a key requirement. 

Managing Credit activities in highly volatile situations – must be adaptable and have an excellent understanding of risk, and how external conditions can affect Shell

Job Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  1. Master degree/qualifications in Finance/Accounting/Business
  2. 5 plus years work experience in Corporate Credit Management and/or Banking
  3. Sound understanding of Financial processes
  4. Experience in a multi-national company
  5. Exhibits excellent English communications skills (C1)
  6. Good knowledge of controls framework
  7. Ability to work under high pressure an in a rapidly changing environment.
  8. Positively engages with others to improve business processes and performance where necessary
  9. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, persuasive and firm in discussions (internal and external discussions)
  10. Results focused team-player, with excellent communication skills and strong drive
  11. Strong analytical skills
