The Group Finance Director - Impairments role is a new role within the Group Financial Reporting (GFR) team, tasked with leading the Group impairment process covering intangible and tangible assets, as well as statutory investments. The role will have interactions across the GFR and Planning teams, wider Finance community as well as external advisors and auditors. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled finance professional to join a high performing team and support critical Group activities at a very exciting time for the company.

What you'll do!
  • Lead the Group impairment process covering both Group-level intangible and tangible asset impairments as well as impairment of investments in statutory books .
  • Act as the SME on impairment across the Group, covering key judgements and estimates including valuations, cash generating units and discount rates.
  • Lead the impairment scoping, timetable and activities across the Group, supporting and collaborating closely with the various product development managers and business unit area leads to ensure appropriate design, operation and testing of impairment controls
  • Preparation and collation of accounting papers to support impairment conclusions both to senior management and to the audit committee, and supporting required statutory accounts disclosures.
  • Act as a compliance lead for impairment controls at the Group level, owning and managing Group level asset reviews over goodwill and technology assets
  • Liaise with internal partners across Finance as well as external auditors to deliver timely and accurate Group financial reporting and compliant controls over impairments

Essential skills for the role
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, CA, ACCA) or equivalent professional qualification
  • Significant practical experience in asset valuations and impairment calculations
  • Technical expertise in IFRS overall, with strong working knowledge and exposure to IAS 36, Impairment of assets.
  • Excellent project management and influencing skills
  • Strong Excel skills, with modelling experience an advantage
  • Problem Solving & Decision Making - able to identify, analyse and offer other solutions to complex problems.
  • Leadership & Development - excellent team working

Desirable for the role
  • Financial audit / impairment experience in a Big 6 audit firm
  • Asset valuation experience and modelling
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience
