About the role
Our Energy business represents our largest business stream delivering over £700m in revenues in FY20 a growth of around +8% year on year. In addition, we continue to attract more customers to our strong energy service offering and in FY20 we supplied our members a total of 1.1m services during the year, a growth of around +2% year on year.
The Energy business has seen continued growth over the last few years and remains in a position of strength coming out of the current economic environment. We have ambitious plans to expand this business in line with our commercial strategy.
As the Assistant Management Accountant, you will work alongside the Energy team and the Energy Management Accountant to support the strategic and operational decision-making process through insights that drive better performance.

As the Assistant Management Accountant, you will work alongside the Energy team and the Energy Management Accountant to support the strategic and operational decision-making process through insights that drive better performance.
What you'll do
In a nutshell, this is a new role that will be responsible for supporting the Energy Management Accountant with all aspects of finance, management accounting and business partnering for the entire Energy business.
Your role will include:
- Support Energy Management Accountant in the preparation, review and monitor of our full Energy management accounts on an ongoing basis, identifying and explaining any key variances
- Support Energy Management Accountant to provide further insight to the monthly accounts or enquires to internal and external stakeholders
- Support with relevant balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring postings are clear and understood by all, and balances substantiated
- To be responsible for the month and year end processes for the Energy business, including the posting of accurate accruals, prepayments and deferred income; and to reconcile and provide commentary on any variances to budget and forecast.
- To be involved, as appropriate, in the operations team and Finance Department special projects, annual budget setting, monthly forecasting, finance systems and process improvements, modelling work, and any other general requirements.
- Provide ad hoc reports and analytics as required
Key skills & essential experience include:
- Part Qualified Accountant (CIMA) (at least +50% through exams) and passion to become qualified
- Good A levels / degree qualification
- Minimum +2 years in a Management accounting role with specific experience and presentation of monthly management accounts
- Preparation of month end and year end accounts to trial balance level including preparation of journals, allocations, balance sheet reconciliations and calculation of provisions and accruals
- Advance Excel user essential
- SAP experience desirable
- A pragmatic approach and the ability to see commercial, customer centric solutions
- Effective communication written and oral skills A sense of camaraderie and good humour while under pressure
