The Senior Financial Accountant will provide financial accounting advice and expertise with a strong focus on providing strategic support to CSIRO and its controlled entities. The successful applicant will be tasked with achieving significant financial accounting outcomes and ensuring the delivery of timely, accurate, financially compliant, and relevant financial processes and advice. In this role, you will also provide strategic and analytical advice and input to the Group and other internal and external stakeholders and assist management with the delivery of their CSIRO business objectives.

The key duties of the position include:

Your duties will include:

  • Support and contribute to the preparation of financial statements and accounting activities for CSIRO and its controlled entities
  • Proactive relationship management with internal and external stakeholders
  • Oversight and quality assurance of CSIRO's balance sheet accounts, balances and movements including revaluations for CSIRO's assets and equity investment portfolios; and reporting on a monthly and annual basis.
  • Advice to finance and the business on business as usual as well as complex accounting matters in accordance with accounting standards and CSIRO practices
  • Management reporting, accounting, budgeting, and forecasting for CSIRO controlled entities - including endowment funds, trusts, companies, partnerships, and venture capital funds
  • Preparation of papers for audit and statutory accounts and oversight and delivery through the team of ad-hoc request such as for Senate Estimates, Questions on Notice

Salary: AU$98,735 - AU$106,848 plus up to 15.4% superannuation

Eligibility

To be considered you will need:
  • A tertiary qualification in accounting or finance as well as completion of the CA/CPA Program, or equivalent work experience.
  • Technical knowledge and/or experience in financial accounting including experience in preparing complex financial statements in line with relevant frameworks
  • Sound judgement, forward-thinking and impactful problem-solving skills to investigate issues and develop appropriate responses.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve results, particularly during periods of change.
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve a high level of trust and respect.
  • A history of exercising initiative and agility in the delivery of high-quality outputs with flexibility under minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and direction for others in the team by coaching and supporting staff and fostering open communication and strong collaboration.

    Eligibility
