Description of Business Unit:

Group Internal Audit (GIA) together with Credit Review, forms thethird line of defence for the Bank of Ireland Group. Our purpose is to provide independent insight and opinion to key stakeholders on the effectiveness of the Group\'s risk management and internal control frameworks.

Purpose of the Role:

The GIA Quality Assurance and Professional Practices (QA & PP) team is responsible for the development and provision of a Quality Assurance and Improvement Programme for the Internal Audit Department. As part of the team, you will assist and lead in the provision of robust internal quality assurance reviews covering multiple diverse areas (e.g. finance, corporate and retail banking, IT), ensuring compliance with the International Internal Audit Standards (IIA) and internal audit methodology, while focussing on continuously improving the quality assurance approach to maximise value to our division, the Group and our customers. The QA & PP team has responsibility for the maintenance, review and update of internal audit methodology and processes, presenting the successful applicant with the opportunity to bring innovative change and enhancements to our Internal Audit Department.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of the key priorities, risks and challenges facing the Group, and Group Internal Audit, through on-going industry research and continuous education.
  • Participate in the end-to-end planning, execution, reporting and follow-up of QA reviews of the highest quality and in line with audit methodology requirements, enabling our colleagues to 'get it right first time.
  • Assist in producing clear, comprehensive and concise QA scope documents, working papers and draft QA findings for manager review, within agreed timeframes.
  • Raise and document QA findings for discussion with QA manager and support the audit team with remediation and action design, and assess the adequacy and appropriateness of actions when completed.
  • Document and retain complete evidence to support the end-to-end QA process leveraging our auditing tool 'TeamMate'.
  • Use the results of QA activities to identify themes and root causes, providing innovative solutions and enhancements to our processes.
  • Identify any required audit methodology and working practice improvements, and training or other support to GIA.
  • Generate insightful management information, reporting results and key recommendations to relevant fora within GIA and the Group as required.
  • Participate in GIA department fora / working groups as and when required.

    Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Internal Audit experience in the financial sector, including end-to-end planning, execution and reporting.
  • Insight and reporting experience, presenting findings and translating work into recommendations and solutions.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills including the ability to interact effectively, and challenge where necessary, at all levels.
  • Strong report writing skills, with attention to detail.
  • Track record that demonstrates integrity, resilience, sound judgement and independence.
  • Ability to operate in a dynamic team-based agile environment, and respond to ad-hoc requests, while meeting deadlines.
  • Proven ability to deliver high quality work within challenging timeframes.
  • Experience Working knowledge of the Group\'s key businesses, priorities and challenges, in addition to the regulatory environment in which the Group operates.
  • Desirable Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Internal Audit Quality Assurance and Professional Practices experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the IIA Standards and the Internal Audit Financial Services Code.
  • Risk Management experience, with good understanding of risk assessment and control design.
  • Knowledge of financial risk frameworks and regulatory and industry guidelines.

    This job can be done anywhere in ROI with the primary office location as Dublin to which travel will be required for in person collaboration. Exact frequency to be agreed with manager.
