Permanent (Full-Time, 40 Hrs)

Here at Serco we are looking for an experienced Auditor to join us at HMP Dovegate. Reporting into the Audit & Compliance Manager, your responsibilities will include planning and delivering a comprehensive & dynamic annual audit timetable that will support the performance of all functions within the prison. As Internal Auditor, your role is critical in leading by example to ensure all functions are compliant with their obligations, and that all staff are fully aware of their accountabilities in delivering a safe, secure and rehabilitative environment.

Your day to day duties will consist of coordinating the work required to fulfil the audit programme and providing quality assurance on all aspects of the self-audit process. You will also contribute to the delivery and achievement of all performance measures, contract outcomes and locally agreed targets including KPI's/CDIs. Other key duties will include:

  • Contributing to successful external visits within remit of responsibility.
  • Undertaking agreed internal audit activities, providing written reports & associated action plans.
  • Maintaining professional working relationships with all relevant internal & external stakeholders.
  • Ensuring operational & administrative duties, including the collection and maintenance of data are completed in accordance with Prison policies and procedures.

Due to the nature of the role, it is important that you are able to plan and organise your workload proactively in a busy environment and display a common-sense approach to your workload with the capacity to make reasonable decisions as required to undertake this role successfully.

What you will need to do the role:

It is vital that you have excellent IT, written & oral communication skills, with the ability to negotiate at all levels as you will be working within an intensely pressurised environment. You will also be confident in your own ability to work alone using your own initiative as well as maintain good working relationships with colleagues within your team. You must have knowledge and experience of using Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word and Excel as well as a minimum GCSE Grade C or equivalent in Maths & English.
