About the role 

RSM Corporate Finance is currently seeking an Associate Director or Manager to join their growing and highly successful Competition Services team acting on Monitoring Trustee and related mandates.

The role would suit candidates from existing Monitoring Trustee teams, Competition / Antitrust Lawyers seeking a change in direction, or candidates currently working at a competition authority. Candidates with a strong relevant skillset will also be considered. 

About the company and department 

RSM’s Competition Services team acts as Monitoring Trustee on behalf of competition authorities, in particular the European Commission and the CMA, to monitor the implementation of remedies and undertakings given primarily on merger cases, also market reviews and State Aid cases. As part of this role you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of cases across a variety of sectors and markets, ranging from working with UK national businesses to acting on cases involving major global groups on multi-country transactions.

About the job 

The role includes: 

  • Assisting the team in monitoring compliance of parties with commitments given to competition authorities, including the operating performance of divestment businesses, and overseeing divestment processes and suitable purchaser criteria
  • Preparing detailed reports to be sent to competition regulators
  • Analysing and assessing data and key issues, including in respect of financial, operational and commercial matters
  • Attending calls / meeting with clients and regulators 
  • Project managing the delivery of engagements and reports to a high standard
  • Assisting in the preparation of pitch documents and materials
  • Preparation and review of client take on and acceptance materials
  • Mentoring, coaching, and developing junior team members
  • Although cases are led by the partners in the team, the role will involve direct interaction with client personnel, including at a senior level, and their advisors.

    Minimum Qualifications

    About the ideal candidate

    The role would suit candidates from existing Monitoring Trustee teams, Competition / Antitrust Lawyers seeking a change in direction, or candidates currently working at a competition authority. Candidates with a strong relevant skillset will also be considered. 

    We are in search of a candidate who is self-motivated, who has good attention to detail and strong analytical skills, and excellent report writing capabilities. The candidate should have a ‘can-do’ attitude, be willing to take on high levels of responsibility, and be a team player.

    Requirements 

    Essential

  • Excellent report writing / drafting and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong analytical skills including the ability to review data for completeness and accuracy 
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Either an ACA with a minimum 1 year post qualification experience OR a lawyer with a background in competition or antitrust OR candidates currently working at a competition authority
  • Desirable

  • A background in either M&A / transactions, Competition / Antitrust, or regulation
  • Experience preferably gained within a leading accounting firm or legal practice
  • Strong commercial acumen and problem-solving abilities
  • Financial analysis capabilities
  • Fluency in or a working knowledge of another language would be advantageous
