The Opportunity

The Tax & Treasury Manager will be an important member of the ApplyBoard Corporate finance team. He/she will be responsible for all aspects of tax and treasury analysis to support ApplyBoard's global businesses, and will report to the Director of Finance in the Kitchener HQ office. He/she will also be expected to work directly with the VP Finance and other senior leaders on a regular basis.

This position contributes to ApplyBoard's success by ensuring an efficient tax compliance and banking structure to support its global operations through overseeing operational and strategic projects. He/she will support all aspects of Tax & Treasury Operations activities. This includes assisting with the development of cash management banking solutions for all business segments of the company and supporting the cash forecasting process.

This demanding role requires a candidate who can quickly become familiar with the ApplyBoard business model in all markets, the associated tax and exchange control regulations applicable to those businesses. The successful candidate will be able to apply this knowledge to analyze specific issues. This position offers excellent personal and career development opportunities to the right candidate.

What You'll Be Doing Every Day
      Taxation
    • Manage taxation to include all elements of corporation tax, SRED, transfer pricing and sales tax returns
    • Manage tax issues of parent and group companies.
    • Evaluate the impact of changes in tax legislation or developments in Canada, US and implement strategic projects as required
    • Create systems, process and best practice within the area of tax and treasury
    • Provide guidance to payroll team on payroll tax issues
    • Coordinate with other teams on government grants
    • Coordinate with tax advisors on tax compliances for international expansions


    • Treasury
    • Manage all aspects of the treasury function
    • Monitor and manage the bank relationships, on-line banking and bank mandates
    • Manage corporate credit card programs
    • Manage and prepare cash flow statement and forecast,
    • Evaluate FX exposures and work on hedging strategies
    • Evaluate processes and internal controls for effective operation and recommend, document and implement improvements on cash management
    • Regular and ad hoc reporting and/or project work


What You Bring to The Table
    • Qualified accountant (CPA, ACA, ACCA, and/or CIMA)
    • University graduate with a strong academic record; accounting, finance or economics background required.
    • Past experience in Big 4 accounting firm in tax practice desired
    • Excellent Microsoft Office skills required (Excel including Pivot Tables, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word); experience with Netsuite, Hyperion and Business Objects (or other database related software) a plus
    • 5 years of relevant tax and treasury experience: cash management, oversight, controls, and International treasury policies
    • Ability to quickly understand and integrate business objectives with tax strategies, and effectively communicate tax requirements to senior management and key stakeholders
    • Strong technical expertise in understanding tax requirements for an international company
    • Ambitious, independent thinker and problem solver able to think strategically, discover solutions and overcome obstacles within a global organization
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
    • Exhibits strong accountability to duties and responsibilities required of job
    • Clear and concise written and oral communication
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships at all levels of the organization
    • Demonstrate and display integrity and discretion based on the information sensitivity, working environment
    • Must enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and be flexible to react to changing priorities
    • Strong self-management, able to work independently
    • Sound business sense
    • Fluency in written and spoken English required, other languages are a plus but not required
