The role in a nutshell
Acting as the quasi Finance Director for the above Categories, to support and shape the direction of this key area. The successful candidate needs to support all aspects of commercial decision-making, by delivering effective and timely financial insight and reporting to help maximise sales, profit and ROI
The Finance Manager will also need to provide a strong financial control environment, working within the relevant financial standards and helping non-finance teams adhere to the standards
What I need to do
Your role has a strong stakeholder management element and you will support your category manager as well as buyers, becoming involved in category planning as well as a variety of analysis to support decision making
You will be responsible for providing sound financial appraisals, including projects, tenders, and a number of value-add streams (such as VCA and PQF) that will help your categories achieve and exceed targets set by the Business Unit Director
Types of ad hoc analysis that will be needed are around the success of promotional strategies; trials; seasonal activity or events; sub-brands; trading intensity; product/buyer profitability; capital investment etc.
As part of the core Trading Finance team you will support your BUFM and Senior Manager, advising on performance but also being responsible for communicating project progress, financial benefits or outcomes pertinent to your area.
As with any key business partnering role, financial rigour is at the heart of what you do, and you will provide the necessary challenge and excellence to ensure the robustness of your figures. You will need to ensure that we remain compliant to all relevant financial accounting standards and advise buyers and category managers when needed
As the face of Finance to your buyers, along with the BUFM, you will need to assist in the budgeting process for your area, but also provide training and tools to the Trading team to raise commercial awareness and improve decision-making, landing key messages aligned with the wider business agenda
How I will succeed
Delivering timely, robust and accurate analysis, translating data into insight, using financial, but also non-financial information when needed
Ensuring financial rigour is in in all pieces of work, ensuring challenge is provided when needed to maximise sales, profit and ROI for the business
Supporting the finance agenda, by landing key messages and providing tools to aid decision making
What I need to know
A proven track record of financial control, but also the ability to develop and maintain such an environment
Be commercially astute
Technical skills are a must to join our team:
CIMA/ACA/ACCA Qualified
Strong Excel and numerical skills, with an aptitude for turning data into analysis and insight
Resources available to me
Appropriate ad-hoc support from the BUFM, but also the wider Trading Finance Leadership Team
Training both on the job, Learning Bursts, lunchtime learning sessions and formal CPD training to keep knowledge refreshed
Regular 1-2-1s with the BUFM, which include development sessions
