Position Summary

The Corporate Accounting Manager is a key member of the National MS Society's Finance team reporting to the VP, Controller and is responsible for general ledger accounting related to cash, investments and endowments, research grants, payroll and benefits. This position is responsible for partnering with external investment banking firms to ensure accurate balance sheet reporting as well as monthly gain/loss activity, internal research teams to maintain grant liability reconciliations and the internal payroll and benefits team for both statement of activities and statement of financial position accounting. The Corporate Accounting Manager will partner with other members of the Finance team as the Workday banking subject matter expert, ensuring timely and accurate GL cash account reconciliations and support monthly variance analysis for all areas of responsibility. The position will support the Society's external audit deliverables and provide subject matter expertise as required. The position must demonstrate initiative and accountability to deliver results with a high degree of integrity.

Essential Function/Responsibility

1. General Ledger (75% of time)
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of Workday General Ledger financial accounting transactions related to cash, investments, endowments, beneficial interests in third parties, charitable gift annuities, grants, payroll and benefits ensuring accounts are reconciled in an accurate and timely manner and in compliance with GAAP and internal policies and procedures
  • Ensure GL account discrepancies found in the reconciliation process are communicated and resolved timely
  • Prepare journal entries and data uploads ensuring proper monthly cut-offs for financial reporting
  • Prepare weekly cash balance and unposted cash transaction balances reporting, and assist with the production of cash financial reports as needed
  • Partner with external investment banking firms to establish new endowment funds as required and support net asset releases as required
  • Partner with the internal research team to facilitate grant payouts and maintain quarterly and annual reconciliation to Fluxx system
  • Partner with the internal payroll and benefits team to ensure alignment from ADP to Workday and other external benefit providers
  • Act as the internal Workday banking subject matter expert and seek opportunities to streamline and automate banking and investment transaction flows

2. Audit and Tax (20% of time)
  • Assist with preparation of audit schedules and reports for external financial reporting and investment related audits
  • Assist with the preparation of annual 990 tax schedules
  • Respond to audit questions as needed

3. Volunteer Engagement (5% of time)
  • We increase the number of Society volunteers, recognizing and recruiting talent (Managing Relationships, Being Open and Receptive)

Qualifications

Minimum Education:
  • Bachelor of Arts or Science

Minimum Experience:

    • Minimum 5-7 years experience in Accounting
    • Recent working knowledge of Workday banking and financial accounting experience is highly desired
    • Experience working with multiple cash, investment and endowment accounts across multiple banking institutions and associated General Ledger accounting
    • Knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
    • Advanced Excel and Word skills and experience preparing audit schedule

Professional License/Certification Required

  • CPA preferred

Estimated compensation range for this role is $60,000 - $85,000. Final offers will be based on candidate geographic location and consider career experience and may vary from this range due to these factors.
