The Position

We are looking for a Director, Accounting and Tax to lead the Accounting, Tax and Financial Operations process for the APAC region. The Director, Accounting is responsible for leading the APAC accounting and tax functions, continuously streamline and improve our financial processes, ensure timely and accurate monthly/quarterly closes and adherence to tax compliance deadlines. Reporting to the Controller, this position requires a detail oriented, organized, highly motivated individual that has excellent management, accounting, tax and analytical skills. Overseeing all general ledger-related activities, such as: proper application of US GAAP, recording accounting transactions (monthly, quarterly, annual), reviewing balance sheet account reconciliations and account analysis as well as statutory audits and tax returns. Responsibilities :
  • Manage month-end close process and day to day accounting processes for both KAYAK, HotelsCombined and OpenTable, ensuring compliance with SOX;
  • Act as the primary point of contact for APAC with the Consolidations and Reporting team, ensuring compliance with all accounting standards, implementing internal accounting controls and procedures.
  • Oversee process alignment across OpenTable and KAYAK brands and develop scalable processes across both brands while maintaining a high level of accuracy;
  • Oversee financial statement analysis of OpenTable and KAYAK performed by the accounting team;
  • Prepare flux analysis and management commentary;
  • Develop and implement business process improvement initiatives and strategies
  • Diving into the details and identifying pain points, eliminate inefficiencies by revamping processes and utilisation of internal systems and tools;
  • Oversee statutory audits and tax compliance for all APAC entities
  • Manage the transfer pricing strategy across the region and ensure compliance with international requirements, including documentation and intercompany agreements.
  • Monitor international legislation to assess implications on the existing structure, as well as to develop viable alternatives where changes in tax laws impact us.
  • Develop relevant training and communication for leadership and business partners to build tax acumen regarding international tax structures and their impact on our business.
  • Establish best in class tax processes with a focus on efficiency and compliance.
  • Hire, direct and supervise the team. Develop the team, guide and mentor direct reports and provide training and feedback.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the APAC finance team as the most senior person in the region.
  • Support the team in driving change, enhancing operating efficiencies, implementing new systems and developing strong internal controls.
  • Oversee and manage payroll accounting and liaise with Payroll team;
  • Assistance with development, maintenance and documentation of all policies and procedures related to assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Work alongside the team on strategic, ad-hoc projects related to challenges we will face as a growing, multi-national company.

Requirements/Qualifications:

You are detail oriented while also able to see the big picture. When faced with a problem, you propose a solution. You have shown ability to prioritize your work, manage to deadlines and keep your manager well informed. You are a self-starter with an ability to manage multiple tasks. You can work independently but know when to ask for assistance, and you take pride in ownership over your areas. You are able to effectively communicate with team members and management.

Education, experience and skills:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting
  • Required Chartered Accountant qualification with up-to-date continuing education requirements
  • Combined accounting experience of 10-12 years with a minimum of 3 years of public accounting experience
  • Prior experience leading a tax function and managing tax compliance.
  • Prior SOX experience in identifying and implementing key controls ensuring the financials are free of material misstatements
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage a team team and drive continuous process improvement
  • At least 8 years of people management experience. Proven ability to recruit, manage, train and coach staff
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, including task prioritization and effective time management
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (vlookup, pivot tables, etc)
  • Experience with accounting software such as NetSuite
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills both verbal and written, ability to communicate confidently and professionally with all levels within the organization.
  • Solution focused with the ability to prioritize and lead multiple tasks in order to meet deadlines.
