Title: Financial Controller - Global Products & Technology

Reports to: Director of Finance - Global Products & Technology

Department/Business: Finance - Global Products & Technology

Location: Lomondgate, Dumbarton

Direct reports: 0

Primary purpose: Provide finance leadership and support across all areas of GP&T, including the leadership team and particularly the GP&T FD & MD. Ownership of all key FP&A activities including the budget process and monthly forecasting. Responsibility to review and maintain a strong financial control environment across GP&T. Primary finance contact for all PLC and intra BU deliverables, including ad-hoc requests and participation in global projects.

Key responsibilities:
  • Central Functions, Strategy and Marketing Reporting
  • Management of the Central Functions, Strategy and Marketing cost base including
  • Monthly reviews of variance against budget/forecast
  • Discussions with HR on headcount and employment cost movements
  • Monthly review with respective GP&T LT representatives


Consolidated GP&T monthly reporting
  • Management of results (actuals and forecast) and GP&T reporting hierarchy including;
    • P&L
    • Fleet and non-fleet capex
    • Net operating assets
    • Headcount
  • Risks & Opportunities/profit 'contingency' management
  • Lead monthly review and approval of results with GP&T MD and FD covering financials and consequential operational impacts
  • Participate in monthly functional review calls, to develop understanding beyond financial information
  • Collation of information for MBR review pack (with CEO/CFO) supporting creation of pack in conjunction with FD
  • Ensure updated reporting hierarchy remains fit for purpose (2021 specific)


Business planning cycle
  • Create plan, timetable and templates for internal GP&T budget cycle
  • Discuss ahead of cycle, key areas of focus (specific to each area where applicable)
  • Participate in review meetings with GP&T business leaders, providing both challenge and support
  • Prepare consolidated GP&T presentation and manage all other submissions to Group finance


Control environment
  • Participation in Global Controls Group activities as sole GP&T representative including review and challenge of submissions for;
    • Financial Control Checklists
    • Segregation of Duties
    • Delegation of Authority
    • Collaboration with Internal Audit on relevant audit issues
  • Ensure consistent approach to financial controls across each GP&T business, aligned to wider Group control environment
  • Management of READ (risk event assurance database) reporting including monitoring of overdue actions and high risk areas. Working with the respective area to support sustainable closure of issues


Leadership
  • Key part of GP&T FLT, alongside Heads of Finance for Manufacturing and Events. Work closely with the FLT to develop the GP&T finance team resulting in a strong pipeline of succession candidates
    • Support priorities for GP&T business and wider finance function
    • Liaison point for GP&T on FLT priorities/finance improvement activities

  • Delivery of objectives and tasks, with minimal supervision, on time and with a quality output
  • Seen as trusted partner across the business, a "go to" person
  • Develop a wide network of contacts across the business areas and functions through collaboration

Education/Qualifications

  • Qualified Accountant


Professional skills/experience
  • Experienced finance professional with strong financial accounting knowledge
  • Propensity to absorb non-financial information across a broad range of topics and disciplines
  • Experience in providing reliability and clarity of information, tailoring outputs for audiences


Personal skills/experience.
  • Experience in working with a number of operational areas, geographies and business units
  • Ability to quickly build trusted relationships across functions and areas
  • Ability to provide appropriate balance of challenge and support
  • Ability to work effectively on multiple, un-related tasks covering various functions
  • Ability to present financial and non-financial information clearly
