Position Summary:
NRDC is seeking a Senior Finance Analyst to work with the Accounting and Finance team in our New York office.
The Program Finance team is part of the Accounting and Finance Department, which reports to the Chief Financial Officer. The team plays an integral role in overseeing the financial management of NRDC's grants and supporting the budgets of our advocacy programs. The team also partners closely with the CFO on the overall strategy and management of the finance organization, including managing partnerships with internal stakeholders and leading large-scale, cross-functional strategic, control and infrastructure initiatives that support the long-term financial sustainability of the organization.
In this role, you will oversee the finance management of the grants as well as guiding the Programs team through the grants spend down process and our policies. You will be viewed as a "key point of contact" and "thought partner" for grant-related issues.

The Senior Finance Analyst will report to the Program Finance Manager. Key responsibilities include:
Summary
- Tracks and monitors all monthly revenue and expenses on grants assigned. Summarize results / raise key issues to Program Finance Manager on routine basis/as need arises.
- Coordinates with Finance analyst and grants management team to ensure grants management-related data are captured in systems and accuracy of the data.
- Approves expenditures on Workplace platform for assigned programs in accordance to departmental guidelines and timeframes.
- Provide supporting documentation and prepare adjustments on expenditures as needed.
- Prepares timely and accurate interim and final expenditure customized and standard grant reports ensuring restricted funds are used per donor intentions; works with Program Finance Manager to establish solutions to spend down complex grants.
- Assist with preparation of quarterly meetings with Senior Program Finance Manager for Program directors to analyze spending against grants and incoming grant funding.
- Assist with activities related to fiscal year end grant close out.
- Serve as an internal resource on matters related to grants financial management
- Provide exceptional communication and customer service skills, plus demonstrate ability to perform in a team environment with excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Actively assist with additional projects as needed - demonstrating being able to respond to priorities and resourcing needs as they shift
Qualifications
Education/Training/Experience:
- BA/BS degree required. Advance degree in business related discipline, CPA, CMA, or CFA a plus.
- 3-5 years at least 3- five years of progressive experience with monitoring grant budgets and expenditures and preparing grant reporting. 2-3 years of experience in working with foundation grants in a not-for-profit environment preferred.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Ability to interpret complex grant contracts and reporting requirements
- Proficient in the use of financial management software to include spreadsheets and databases, required. Exposure to Great Plains and Power BI dashboards are a plus.
- The individual must possess strong multi-tasking, critical thinking, and judgement, and be able to organize and prioritize independently based on competing timelines.
- Attention to detail is critical.
- Numeracy and detail-oriented self-starter with ability to complete tasks with little or no supervision
- Ability to communicate effectively across a broad spectrum of staff, both orally and in writing required.
- Able to adapt to change management including operational processes and new system platforms.
- Demonstrates a collaborative and flexible style, with a strong follow-up skill.
