Job Description

The Director, Trust Accounting Services ( TAS ) will be responsible for directing, coaching and managing a team consisting of 3 segregated teams across Canada. The responsibility of each team consists of Trust Accounting Administration, Controls, and Development and enhancement respectively. The incumbent will be part of a dynamic and knowledgeable team, each with a variety and distinct responsibilities ranging from Funding & Trading, Fund on Fund capital stock allocations, projects and system release enhancements.

The successful candidate should have an in-depth background and knowledge of fund operations lifecycle including client systems such as fund capital stock cycle files, strong accounting skills, and a keen ability to build relationships with the impacted stakeholders and support areas impacting their businesses.

Being part of the Global Wealth Asset Management, the incumbent will be exposed to all Canadian Fund product types and will be responsible for managing the 3 teams to ensure all activity is completed on time and as per the service level agreements.

Your Contribution:
  • Lead a team of professionals focused on meeting the objectives of the department. Develop practical resource plans for the team based on existing business and future requirements. Seek to optimize use of resources and deliver efficiencies, while respecting the budget. Ensure high level of engagement within the team.
  • Lead and represent the department on complex projects. Coordinate and participate in planning, testing and implementation of new mandates or processes that impact Manulife Investment Operations. Review and approve process changes to ensure appropriate controls are in place.
  • Identify, implement and maintain controls to mitigate financial and operational risks. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Investigates trends and irregularities to identify causes and resolve the most complex issues/situations
  • Understand emerging issues and challenges, and develop effective resolutions;
  • Document future control environment and identify high risk processes and suggest controls to be implemented to mitigate risk identified.
  • Assesses current policies, programs and services to recommend changes that support continuous improvement. Can modify or develop new procedures to meet business needs and accounting requirements.
  • Proactively works with colleagues and clients to identify and resolve problems that require the development of new solutions.
  • Provides mentorship and guidance to team members and may assist the team members with managerial tasks.
  • Document daily support and issues related to system delays, and functional failures to support the daily operational deliveries
  • Evaluate cost/benefit analysis for projects related to the VPA system and challenge the status quo for future benefits and improvements
  • Managing all activities required to meet annual audit plans
  • Management of units Business Continuity Plans and annual validation activities
  • Timely investigation and response to internal client inquiries


Qualifications:
  • University degree in Accounting or Finance, 10+ years of relevant experience with professional Accounting designation (CPA)
  • Strong Operational Knowledge and understanding of the cash transfer systems such as VPA or treasury systems
  • Knowledge of the mutual funds industry and lifecycle
  • Proven leader who is dynamic and able to motivate a team
  • Bilingual, French and English, written and spoken.
  • Expertise in working within a global organization
  • Highly effective influence, negotiation and collaboration skills with the ability to work across the enterprise globally.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate negotiate and influence successfully.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently, particularly in the area of using sound, independent discernment, problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Results oriented, work under tight deadlines and handle competing priorities.
  • Strong business insight with ability to handle ambiguous situations
  • Knowledge of transfer agent systems such as Unitrax, IFDS, retirement funds as well as Accounting book of records systems such as PAM, Mpower, or Simcorp
  • Strong understanding of Project Management Methodology along with associated business analysis accountabilities
  • Experience in Audit (internal or External) an asset
  • Knowledge of Fund NAV process
  • Strong team player
