Department: the Global Open Finance Centre of Excellence ('GOFCoE')

Permanent, 35 hours per week

We are looking for an accountant (either qualified or part qualified) to support both financial and grant reporting and management at the newly established GOFCoE, which is a cornerstone project of the DDI programme. The University has recently been awarded £22.5m over 5 years to help establish GOFCoE and set it up for the long term. This appointment stands to be a key initial hire for GOFCoE.

The Opportunity:

Support is required for the both financial and grant reporting and management. Financial reporting and management will cover management and statutory reporting, cash reporting and cash management. There will also be a requirement to prepare grant claims for submission and report on grant expenditure relative to budget. Reporting processes, along with operational controls require developing, so there is an opportunity to play an important role in laying the foundations for longer term success.

Joining GOFCoE at this early stage offers the opportunity to be involved at a very early stage, helping to shape the finance function. The GOFCoE team have ambitions to develop a fast growing organisation and as such the role potentially offers longer term opportunities for additional responsibilities (including supervisory) as GOFCoE grows.

Your skills and attributes for success:

• Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, with experience of liaising with and managing numerous internal and external stakeholders

• Experienced accountant capable of producing management accounts to a high standard, supporting reconciliations and returns (eg VAT & PAYE) and financial information in line with accounting policies

• Comfortable setting up processes and controls, including reporting, identifying and implementing improvements - a sound understanding of finance controls is essential

• Proven ability of working under pressure

• Strong IT skills, particularly Excel
