Henley Business School at the University of Reading is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Accounting who will undertake teaching, scholarship, and academic administration in the area of accounting for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and to contribute to the delivery of the BA Accounting programme in collaboration with Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) in China. The post is based in Reading (Whiteknights) with one term each year spent teaching on secondment in Beijing.

The BA Accounting programme is a four-year degree programme delivered at BIT in Beijing by a combination of BIT faculty and University of Reading faculty. Upon completion of the programme, students receive double degrees from the University of Reading and BIT. There are around 550 students currently studying on the programme.

The post holder will:
  • teach a range of modules in the broad area of accounting and financial management as agreed by the Head of Business Informatics, Systems and Accounting (BISA); for this post, ability to teach audit/assurance, ethics and/or financial reporting will be essential; a professional qualification in accounting and an experience in delivering professional subjects in accounting is an advantage.
  • spend a term (around 3 months) each year on secondment at Beijing Institute of Technology to deliver courses in Beijing
  • engage in scholarship leading to innovations in teaching
  • participate in the teaching and assessments of the modules and support the compliance with the University's teaching quality assurance standards and procedures
  • take on administrative duties and academic citizenship activities appropriate for his/her expertise and experience.

You will have:
  • a PhD/DBA (or close to completion) in accounting or a closely related area or a professional qualification in accounting
  • demonstrable ability to teach at a high standard at UG and PG level, and to a variety of audiences
  • specialist knowledge of accounting subjects and related areas sufficient to be able to provide high quality teaching
  • teaching experience at a HE institution or evidence of innovation in teaching suitable for HE
  • willingness to make positive contributions to the international collaboration between BIT and the University of Reading as well as openness and adaptability to different cultures.
