Senior Finance Manager
Job Purpose£
This an exciting time to join the triple accredited Adam Smith Business School, as it is on a continued growth trajectory at both UG and PGT student level, is developing further its portfolio of funded research, and seeking to enhance its reputation among policy and corporate connections. A strategic finance business partner is required who can ensure that they are able to take advantage of the opportunities and achieve their ambition. Reporting directly to the Head of Finance of the College of Social Sciences and the Head of the Adam Smith Business School, this role will lead the finance team within the School and provide high quality strategic and operational decision-making support across the School through the delivery of robust, high quality financial analytical insight.£
£- As part of the School management team play a key contributor role in the development and implementation of the School strategy within the broader College strategic framework£
- In partnership with School and College senior Colleagues support delivery on the School KPI targets.£
- Lead the budgeting and planning processes for the School including the month end management accounts and quarterly forecasting in line with the requirements of College Finance.£
- To provide decision-making support to Head of School to deliver on financial targets and ensuring sound business development opportunities are progressed and tracked in line with delivery targets.£
- Integral member and key contributor of the wider College and University finance team progressing College/University-wide initiatives in line with agreed deliverables.£
- To continuously improve processes and procedures that support efficient and effective operations within a strong internal control environment, whilst supporting consistency of approach within the College.£

£Main Duties and Responsibilities£
£1. Strategic financial management and business development Inform, contribute, and assist with the implementation of the School£s strategy with financial sustainability central to the decision-making process. Providing both support and challenge in the development and review of business case proposals and applying sensitivity analysis to the inherent risks and opportunities. Ensure post completion review is completed for approved business cases with recommended recovery plans to management in the event of underperformance. Robust analytical review of the existing teaching and research portfolio with recommendations on maximising further financial return.£
£2. Decision-making support Lead on ensuring that budgets are managed by liaising with budget holders within the School to take corrective action on budget variances, communicating as required to the College Finance Office. Prepare quarterly forecasts for Teaching, Research and Commercial activity at School level ensuring that the process is continually improved in terms of data quality and analytical insight, providing forecast input to the College Finance Office in line with agreed timescales. Preparation of the annual School budgets ensuring the process is robust including the provision of high-quality analytical insight, providing budget input to the College Finance Office in line with agreed timescales.£
£3. Relationship building Able to work effectively with staff at all levels, frequent interaction with the Schools leadership team, academic and professional services colleagues and finance professionals, across the University. Manage and develop the School£s finance team to ensure that a quality service is being delivered.£
£4. Internal Controls, Process Efficiency and Effectiveness Monitoring and development of internal control system to ensure School£s finances are well controlled and operate on the preferred corporate system and process. Work with the Head of Finance and Head of School to establish an effective risk management framework across the School. Optimise the service the finance function provides across the School/College and where appropriate eliminating duplication of effort. Develop a close partnership with the central Finance Office to ensure transactional support is delivered in a controlled, effective, and efficient manner.
£5. Other Duties Deliver a programme of training and support to drive a step change in the financial awareness and capability of academic and professional services colleagues. Attend meetings as required. Provide information as required under Freedom of Information Requests. Provide high quality and specialist advice & guidance on financial information and University policy.£
