The purpose of John Hancock's START Program is to develop a cadre of exceptional IT professionals who will bring a high level of skill, energy, and understanding of the business to the teams for which they will ultimately work for. Overview: Serves as a developing contributor and leader among IT and business unit stakeholders in order to define needs, recommend solutions and implement changes that deliver value to the organization, in an agile environment.

The START Program is a two-year rotational program comprised of several key components:
Rotations
The program will provide participants with two unique rotations in Business Units and Functional areas. The participant will gain exposure to an array of products, technologies and services offered by the company while strengthening their skills as versatile business professionals. Each participant will experience two 12-month rotations during the program. Upon successfully completing the program, participants will have gained the skills and tools needed to excel within the organization.
Mentoring
The mentor component will help program participants assimilate into the company and the roles that IT professionals perform. Participants are assigned a peer and a professional mentor to help guide them throughout the rotations and to assist them in the adjustment of working at John Hancock. The peer mentor is a current participant of the START Program. The professional mentor is a high-performing leader in the organization who has extensive knowledge of Business and/or IT practices. Mentors will provide participants with exposure to other areas of the company and an opportunity to develop and diversify their skills and knowledge.
Professional Development
Participants will receive a combination of formal, classroom training as well as on-the-job training. The classroom training will provide the understanding of the core Business & IT methodologies, practices and concepts (e.g., Agile framework, change management, design thinking). Hands-on practical skill building occurs throughout each rotation as participants are exposed to business unit specific systems and various functional areas.
Community Engagement
Participants will also become members of the START community, which provides a place for new hires to interact with current and previous participants. START community activities include social outings, volunteer opportunities and networking with other New Grad programs and Employee Resource Groups.

IT Analyst:
Job Title: Associate IT Business Analyst
Overview: Serves as a developing contributor and leader among IT and business unit stakeholders in order to define needs, recommend solutions and implement changes that deliver value to the organization, in an agile environment.
Key Accountabilities:
- Provide support for business and systems initiatives working independently on small projects and supporting larger projects meeting time and quality targets.
- Assist with analysis and definition of user stories within well-defined parameters
- Provide support to business areas, investigating operational related problems/inquiries, and recommending and implementing solutions.
- Develop new procedure documentation in support of new process, products or system enhancements.
- Provide post implementation support for all approved deliverables.
- Develop leadership skills in identifying and promoting change in the company and its business units.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Bachelor's Degree (technology concentration strongly preferred)
- Understand Software Development Lifecycle approaches, especially Agile/Scrum development practices
- Working knowledge of business Operations and IT concepts
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and team building skills
- Flexible and adaptable to manage multiple priorities, assignments and tasks; able to adapt to changing conditions and work assignments
- Good analytical skills with the ability to define and solve problems
