It is a collaborative organization of dedicated financial professionals offering many careers paths within finance and across our diverse businesses.
We are currently seeking a talented professional to join our JDI Finance team and showcase these talents in the role of Accountant. As the successful applicant for this opportunity, you will be located at Irving Shipbuilding in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, focused on our Shipbuilding Division.

Irving Shipbuilding is in the business of building and repairing vessels. The Company's primary site, the Halifax Shipyard has been at the forefront of Canadian shipbuilding for 130 years. Irving Shipbuilding is currently working on a number of significant projects for the Department of National Defense as part of Canada's National Shipbuilding Strategy, as well as the Canadian Coast Guard. The Company's commitment to health, safety and care for its employees and the environment is an integral part of its business.
Qualifications:
The successful applicant must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), and Canadian Government Security clearance.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree and a professional accounting designation
- 3-5 years of relevant accounting work experience
- Ability to work as a team, effectively manage priorities and meet deadlines
- A pro-active approach, continuous improvement mindset and problem-solving skills are required
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills required to work various internal and external parties
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, is a necessity
The successful applicant must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), and Canadian Government Security clearance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintaining the general ledger accounts and/or developing or reviewing financial statements and reports including: periodic financial reporting packages, weekly reports, standard variance reporting, performance summaries, quarterly review reporting
- Performing all necessary accounting activities in accordance with accounting principles and standards
- Provide business partnering support within JDI Finance and Irving Shipbuilding
- Ad hoc reporting requests
- Working with external auditors
- Coaching of accounting associates
