Job Description
Smiths Detection in Hemel Hempstead is seeking a Financial Analyst to join the company on a permanent basis.
The individual will be expected to make a full contribution to the provision of timely, accurate, complete and consistent metrics and ensure the appropriate existence and functioning of finance related operating procedures in respect of the division's manufacturing, procurement, supply chain and other associated activities.
The role will involve regular communication of management information (including financial performance and other KPI's both historical and forecast) to the Finance and operations functions in addition to supporting the Finance Director in providing strategic input, identifying business risks and proposing mitigating actions.

Duties & Responsibilities
Financial Planning:
- Actively engaging in the completeness, consistency and timely reporting of the monthly finance related Operations metrics.
- Assisting in the consolidation and divisional reporting of the monthly metrics together with ensuring that the appropriate framework is adhered to.
- Develop a deep understanding of and maintaining an appropriate reporting tool to represent the various elements causing under/over absorption within operations.
- Support the preparation of the finance section of the monthly board report.
- Support the financial planning process for all quarterly, annual and strategic financial plans (including cost saving targets).
- Support SAP/other initiatives to enhance the level of consistency and automation of Operations / Finance processes.
- Support the preparation of presentations as and when required to be delivered to senior management within Smiths Detection.
Cost Control:
- Robust and consistent cost control including the harmonisation project in terms of SAP standard costing structure across the Smiths Detection entities, tracking of target benefits and understanding of monthly variances giving rise to under/over absorption within service.
- Employ techniques such as analytical review to identify and query anomalous costs and budget variances.
- Maintaining the list of the top 20 global standards for assessment by key stakeholders and senior management.
Inventory / Cost Roll:
- Effective use of ERP systems in order to highlight underlying movements in inventory.
- Continuing improvements in inventory transparency and decision making.
- Ensure SAP compliance is maintained, and inventory policy adhered to.
- Maintenance of the standard costs across the network, including ad hoc support to local teams.
- Support the Global Operations team in all activities relating to the administration of the annual cost roll process with subsequent impact analysis.
Business Strategy Support:
• Support the Global Operations Finance team ensure the operations function is provided with quality navigation, forecasting and business planning metrics that facilitate insightful commercially focused decision making.

The Individual
- Professionally qualified or part qualified, (ACCA/ ACMA / CIMA), and educated to a degree level.
- Experience working with SAP is a significant advantage.
- A conscientious approach to reporting and thirst for analysis and problem solving.
- Experience in variance analysis and manipulation of large datasets.
- Strong technical skills in Excel, some experience in Power Query and PowerBI an advantage.
- Experience of dealing with large organisations and consolidations is an advantage.
- The ability and motivation to persistently pursue and achieve effective results which drive the business forward.
- The ability to monitor and manage the progress of multiple tasks during short turnaround times, and meet multiple deadlines.
- The ability to build an effective network of relationships both internally and externally, understanding their customers' needs.
- Willing to ask questions but also research potential solutions independently.
- Willing and able to identify and support change and continuous improvement in own and wider business environment.
