Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
For G&C Professional 2 - BA/BS plus at least two years of related grants administration experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least six years.
For G&C Professional 3 - BA/BS plus at least four years of related grants administration experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least eight years.
Strong organizational and project management skills
Experience working with confidential information and maintaining discretion
Basic accounting skills

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with federal grants helpful, but not required
UMN Certified Approver experience helpful, but not required
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team

About the Job

Job Overview:
CBS seeks a grant accountant to work solely for BioMADE. This is an exciting opportunity to work with pre-award and post-award management in a cross-functional unit that spans university, government, and biomanufacturing industries. The grant accountant should be excited about learning and growing with this new unit, which will handle at minimum $.25B in its initial 5 years. As an MII, this position involves navigating a significant level of management complexity and engagement with partners across industry, academia, and government to realize successful research and development.

This position will be hired as a Grant & Contract Generalist - Professional 2 or Grant & Contract Generalist - Professional 3, depending upon final candidate's qualifications. The salary range for this position will be $50,000 - $75,000, based on job level and final candidate's qualifications.

Position Duties/Responsibilities:
25% Manage all Pre-award activities of the BioMADE Institute
Manage pre-award activities that cut across many specialties such as proposals, program development, contract negotiations, financial administration, reporting and compliance.
Support BioMADE's efforts to obtain and manage research grants from a variety of external funding sources
Assist in the development and submission of grant/contract proposals
Responsible for pre and post-award financial management of grants, research projects, sub-awards and/or contracts. Prepares renewals and reports that are required by granting agencies and management.

40% Manage post-award activities of the BioMADE Institute
Post-award activities that cut across many specialties such as proposals, program development, contract negotiations, financial administration, reporting and compliance.
Certified Approver for activities of the sponsored projects within the Institute.
Manage significant cost share documentation and reporting.
Involved in the monitoring of budgets, spending, and approvals, and provides guidance and counsel.
Ensure compliance with sponsor terms, University policies/procedures and federal regulations.

35% Manage Subaward activity of BioMADE
Construct and manage a grant-making program serving external partners.
Management of multiple, ongoing subawards. Oversee the subrecipients' activities, including performing risk assessment and subrecipient monitoring,
Ensure timely delivery and review of invoices, acquire progress reports and ensure their review, resolve mid-project issues
Monitor compliance approvals, ensure timely payments, and handle subaward modifications.
Ensure BioMADE processes are documented and reviewed; identify opportunities for increased efficiency and streamlined operations
Review external proposals that are submitted for consideration.

About the Department

The University of Minnesota is seeking highly-motivated candidates to work for its College of Biological Science (CBS). The successful candidate will be part of a group of CBS employees assigned to perform duties for BioIndustrial Manufacturing and Design Ecosystem (BioMADE) at BioMADE's facility on the University's Saint Paul campus. BioMADE is a Department of Defense (DoD) sponsored Manufacturing Innovations Institute (MII). BioMADE has contracted with the University to provide University personnel to staff its St. Paul facility.

BioMADE joins eight DoD-sponsored MIIs as part of the Manufacturing USA network. BioMADE will support the growth and sustainment of domestic bioindustrial manufacturing, perform research and development (R&D) activities, facilitate the distribution of R&D funding to member institutions, and support national defense needs.
