Project Accountant

This an excellent opportunity for an experienced Project Accountant from professional services/consultancy to work with an internationally recognised project management business. As the Project Accountant you will be responsible for monitoring and reporting on the progress of all the firms circa 100 projects which generate annual turnover of approximately £9m.

Client Details

My client are a Central London based internationally recognised project management firm specialising in the built environment. Managing design, programme & planning, dispute resolution and rescue. They are now looking to expand their finance team due to recent growth within the business and are looking for a Project Accountant from professional services / consultancy background to help the sustain this.

Description

The Project Accountant will be responsible for the following:

• Creation and maintenance of project records via company reporting software

• Manage and review the submission of time sheets for work related project commissions

• Prepare and review financial data for project leads and liaise with the project leads and senior management to accurately identify project cost position and profitability accurately

• Prepare and circulate weekly utilisation and resource reporting

• Report relevant project information including turnover, resource utilisation, secured work and risk for inclusion in the management accounts to the management accountant

• Close out project accounts upon project completion

• Responsible for all aspects and the efficient operations of the sales ledger

• Liaising with project leads on invoice details for all live projects

• Raising sales invoices at appropriate times during each month, ensuring that these are issued in a timely manner and that all rechargeable costs are recovered

• Manage the approved write-off of any project-related costs that cannot be collected from clients

• Responding to all sales ledger related queries

• Oversee credit control conducted by the finance assistant and manage any issues arising

• Complete all month-end procedures, reports, and reconciliations to the required timescale

In addition, the role provides ad-hoc support to the Head of Finance regarding the preparation of corporate financial and business planning information as required including compilation of information for internal and external auditors

Profile

The successful Project Accountant:

Must have previous experience in project accounting position within professional services or consultancy

• CIMA/ACCA part-qualified and/or equivalent working experience

• Minimum 2 year's experience working in a project accounting role

• Knowledge of the project structure in a client/consultant business environment

• Experience conducting manual and systems-based revenue recognition and project profitability reports including calculation of hours and associate mark-up

• Experience dealing with resources on projects which are predominantly labour based and quantified by time

• Experience using Deltek Vision (desirable)

• Intermediate MS Excel (pivot tables/conditional formulae)

• Analytical with a strong attention to detail

• Resilient character; comfortable challenging others where required
