Strategic Projects and Costing Accountant

Job Reference: 251-CORP809-GS

Employer: Department: Finane Location: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Basingstoke Salary: £38,890 - £44,503 pa

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides services through its three hospitals in Andover, Basingstoke and Winchester. We provide all general hospital services for planned and emergency care as well as specialist services.

In October 2019, the government announced its Health Infrastructure Plan, a long-term, rolling five-year programme of investment in health infrastructure, including capital to build new hospitals, modernise primary care estate, invest in new diagnostics and technology, and help eradicate critical safety issues in the NHS estate. Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT) is part of phase 2 of this plan and the HHFT Modernising our Hospitals and Health Services (MOHHS) programme has been supported to progress to the next stage of developing its plans.

HHFT aims to undertake construction and start full operation in the period 2025-2030. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of developing a new state of the art acute health infrastructure estate for the population of North and Mid Hampshire. As a dedicated finance professional for the Finance & Funding Sources workstream, the post holder will be part of the development and production of comprehensive financial appraisal models for the MoHHS programme, along with other Trust's strategic investments related to our sites and services.

The current COVID-19 crisis has emphasised the importance of the NHS to life in the UK. The NHS has responded magnificently, but the crisis has shown the inadequacy and inflexibility of much of the NHS estate and equipment. The population of North and Mid Hampshire depends on a 50 year old acute hospital in Basingstoke, an acute hospital in Winchester which has not seen large scale investment since the mid-1980s, and a hospital in Andover developed piecemeal over the last 80 years. This programme should allow a renewal of our facilities fit for the next 50 years, reflecting national and international best practice and innovation.

Reporting to the Head of Strategic Finance, an exciting opportunity has arisen in the Finance Department based at the Basingstoke site for an Strategic Projects and Costing Accountant. Applicants should have excellent IT skills and the ability to analyse complex financial problems. Good communication skills will also be an asset in this role. NHS finance experience is desirable.
