Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) spans 125,243 square kilometres across southern New South Wales, stretching from the Snowy Mountains in the east to the plains of Hillston in the northwest and all the way along the Victorian border. As one of two new finance leadership positions, an opportunity exists as the Associate Director of Financial Planning & Analysis. You will work in a complex, challenging yet also very rewarding LHD and work at a high level with senior executives and the ministry of health.

Role Outline

As the Associate Director - Financial Planning & Analysis, leading a team of 11 staff, the primary objective of the position is to serve as a key and direct support, for the Director, Finance and Performance in:
  • Activity Based Funding and Management and is expected to have significant experience in the field
  • Analysis and ad-hoc financial performance reporting for specific improvement programs / areas of concern.
  • Strategic advice including economic / financial analysis and improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinating and responding to urgent and ad-hoc requests for financial data internal and external to the Health Service.
  • The position holder is expected to build effective working relationships and close collaboration with Health Services, Health Support Services, hospital management and key Health Service leaders

Selection Criteria
  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce or Finance and membership and post graduate qualifications as a CA or CPA qualified accountant.
  • Demonstrated successful experience and technical understanding in the provision of and management of financial services within a large organisation with emphasis being on the timely presentation of accurate monthly and year- end management reporting and budgeting, and initiating, improving and overseeing the analysis of financial information.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the application of management accounting principles, budget control and management on a facility/cost centre/program/ basis, including preparation of detailed working papers, and a demonstrated high level of organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated high level competencies in the analysis of management reporting, reporting variances to budget and developing full year projections.
  • Demonstrated success in the management and development of your team as an effective group that provides high quality and client focused information and reports.
  • Demonstrated co-ordination of activities of a diverse workforce of individuals and teams to deliver high quality Business Support services combined with a sound knowledge of human resource management issues at a broad and specific level.
  • High level financial and operational analysis including the evaluation of issues, development of options and the presentation of high quality written and oral reports.


  • This is an ongoing full-time position, Health Manager 5 level. An attractive remuneration package within the range of $150,131 to $ $159,232 per annum, to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
