The R&D Data Office, within DS&AI, is a key organisation to deliver upon AstraZeneca's strategy. Data Office operates a central capability, with R&D wide accountability, to ensure that we harness the power of data to drive innovative science.

Data Office will govern data, drive data quality and ensure our data is readied for analytics, crafting paved-paths for scientists to perform data led research, without compromising our legal restrictions or ethical principles.

Within Data Office, your role is Data Provisioning Business Analyst, a member of a dedicated Data Provisioning Operations team.

This team performs data provisioning activities for AstraZeneca R&D, supporting data led science across our key therapy areas and all stages of drug discovery and development.

As a Business Analyst, you will support two key themes of work. First, you will support end-to-end requirements engineering activities for our highest priority and potentially sophisticated data provisioning projects.

Second, you will be aligned to driving improvement of the Data Provisioning team operations including defining t important metrics, crafting slick processes and driving continuous improvement to additional data needs, new team capabilities and evolving data governance requirements.

In addition to core business analysis skills, to be successful in this role, you must demonstrate an excellent ability to communicate and analyse partner needs across a broad range of disciplines and have a passion for driving business value to customer groups.

In performing this role, your work will enable efficient data provisioning activities, ensuring that our data scientists are accelerated in their work, in turn, driving innovative science and ultimately, creation of novel life-changing medicines for patients globally.

Typical Accountabilities
  • Supporting our engagement leads to scope-out data provisioning projects with R&D partners.
  • Partner analysis.
  • Facilitating prioritisation of
  • Defining and executing on business analysis plans to drive success of data provisioning projects.
  • End-to-end requirements engineering for data provisioning projects, including planning and running requirements analysis activities (e.g., interviews, workshops), analysing user requirements and requirements documentation.
  • Following projects through to completion and ensuring our R&D partners achieve their desired outcomes, fostering back to the team and helping to plan tactical and strategic improvements.
  • As-is and to-be process mapping in response to additional data scope, new team and technology capabilities.
  • Helping the operations team-lead establish critical metrics and subsequently support monitoring team performance.


Required education, skills and experience
  • Have a minimum of three years as a business analyst with a track record of successful business change project work.
  • Hold a degree or equivalent in a scientific, technical or engineering subject area. Excellent process analysis expertise including string business process modelling notation skill.
  • Strong requirements capturing technique.
  • Experience working in an agile project environment, e.g., scrum team
  • Ability to structure and generate robust and testable requirements.
  • Partner analysis and management capabilities.
  • Hold an industry recognised qualification in business analysis, e.g., BCS or IIBA.
  • Experience from Pharma industry is significant advantage.
  • Experience working with data-related legislation and policy (e.g., GDPR) an advantage.
  • Experience with agile project delivery tools, in particular Jira, an advantage
  • Experience working with data-focussed processes, especially in a scientific domain would be a significant advantage.
