Background
KPMG's Corporate Accounting team provides a variety of accounting and tax support services to help businesses with their finance and compliance requirements. Our client base comprises mid-market and large corporate clients who outsource some or all of their UK finance activities. Some of our clients are established household names and market leaders across a range of industries, including entertainment, retail and real estate. Others are newly formed UK branches or subsidiaries of overseas companies. Our clients may choose to outsource their full finance function to us or a specific task such as preparation of statutory financial statements for a whole group.
The department provides a range of financial compliance services including preparation and review of UK statutory financial statements and management accounts (from large outsourcing engagements to individual entities) and VAT compliance services.
Key responsibilities
The department has a secondment opportunity to cover the maternity leave of its Senior Manager. It is seeking a fully qualified accountant to lead the team, which consists of 14 team members across London and Birmingham as well as manage delivery with its outsourcing teams in India and Hungary. Qualified candidates should hold the ACA, ACCA, or recognised equivalent qualifications. Candidates should have experience of providing exceptional client service in practice. Candidates should have excellent core accounting skills. Direct experience of reviewing bookkeeping, financial statement preparation and VAT compliance is desirable. The scope of work varies from client to client so candidates should be adaptable.
Key responsibilities will include:
Reviewing financial statement preparation;
Reviewing management accounts and book-keeping;
Reviewing VAT returns;
Liaising with other departments and key contacts within KPMG (including corporate tax compliance, Accounting Advisory Services and payroll);
Overseeing the recruitment of the department and planning of future resourcing requirements;
Allocating work between the team members;
Completing regular proposals for new client opportunities;
Overseeing billing and compliance for the department and being available to the managers within the team for any risk or billing queries they may have;
Overseeing the software requirements of the department;
Overseeing any process changes within the team in respect of bookkeeping, financial statement preparation and VAT compliance;
Performance management for the 4 managers within the team;
People management and pastoral care of the team; and
Overseeing the training requirements of the team;
Skills required
The role is client facing and the employee will be required to liaise directly with the clients, arranging work schedules in respect of the relevant input. The following skills and behaviours are essential:
