At Sainsbury's, we are in a very exciting period as we have moved to a Group structure - with Argos, Habitat and now Nectar Loyalty joining the core Food Business. As such, we are also responding to the changing needs of the Business, ultimately driven by delivering what our Customers want, and how they would like to shop.

This role will be a key part of a team that will support the SSL Marketing Division, as well as working with the Nectar Loyalty Finance team. Working in an integrated way across the Group is a key part of how we will now work. Marketing Finance is involved in a number of key pieces of work which has meant we are at the forefront of Loyalty and Marketing analysis and accounting for the Group.

What you need to do

Your role has a strong business partnering element as well as core financial accounting requirements. You will support your Marketing Division business partners and the wider Marketing and Loyalty Finance team colleagues

As part of the Marketing and Loyalty Finance team, you will have:

Responsibility for ensuring timely support and accounting of Marketing spend in key areas such as Broadcast and Insight, working in an agile way with your peers and wider Finance team

Gaining a deep understanding of your area, how it works and the impacts of our decisions especially where there Non- Food or SMS (Shopper Marketing services) report into our world

Support the C6 Senior Finance manager, or senior manager responsible for areas such as Broadcast and Insights, and support the Marketing Finance manager as needed. You also may need to run modelling or scenario planning when needed for the Head of Marketing and Loyalty Finance

Understanding and applying any relevant standards such as IFRS15/16 that affect operating costs, seeking out support from the Group Finance team when needed

Working closely with the Marketing division to ensure that we are accurately recording Marketing costs, ensuring tight budget management, and good practice when it comes to managing the accounts

Error free management of prepayment and accrual accounts, ensuring that these accounts are fully reconciled and cleared in a timely manner

Acting as the lead on, or contributing to Capex planning, Budget, Q2F, Corporate planning and latest view forecasting in your area, working with your peers as needed

Perform standard month end duties including journal posting and correct account management

Identifying, and leading on all matters around financial control, Balance sheet management and general accounting principles

Ensure the Marketing team understand and adhere to the relevant accounting policies and provide training as needed.

Accurate reporting and commentary of cost movements in your areas to the relevant areas of the Sainsbury's business and other governance forums

Be comfortable working with ambiguity across a number of projects and taking a proactive approach in supporting the various teams, leading as a Finance professional

Comfortable to flag and drive the Finance agenda, and challenge your senior stakeholders - making decisions or recommendations as needed

Stepping up to cover the C6 Senior Finance Manager as needed in sessions with the Marketing division

What you need to know

A proven track record of financial control, but also the ability to develop and maintain such an environment

Be commercially astute

CIMA/ACA/ACCA fully qualified or relevant suitable experience

Previous experience of Oracle GL is advantageous, but not required

Advanced Excel and numerical skills, with an aptitude for turning data into analysis and insight

A self-starter, and a strong team player that can work independently, spotting the areas to focus on and assisting in the decision making process

Ability to demonstrate great judgement when needed

Great communication skills, able to influence audiences of varying financial and commercial backgrounds

High levels of pace, energy and resilience

Must have a strong eye for detail and a passion for accuracy

Job-holder may need to deputise for the Marketing Finance manager, or Head of Marketing and Loyalty Finance at times in appropriate Forums

Appropriate ad-hoc support from the wider Commercial Finance or Marketing and Loyalty Finance Team

Training both on the Job, Learning Bursts, Learning sessions and formal CPD training to keep knowledge refreshed

1-2-1s with the Head of Marketing and Loyalty Finance, which include development sessions, and informal sessions with the C6 Senior Finance Manager as needed
