About the role

Wiltshire College and University Centre is a vital player in Wiltshire's economy, inspiring people to develop the skills they need to achieve. Our four campuses are learning hubs in their communities, and we aspire to be an outstanding, financially robust and commercially agile provider, achieving our clear social mission on behalf of leaners and employers across Wiltshire and beyond.

We are seeking to appoint a new Director of Finance to develop and drive implementation of our financial strategy, helping us rebuild financial resilience following the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Leading and managing a small finance department, and influencing across the whole College, the Director of Finance is our lead finance role, combining day to day operations with strategic improvement.

Our turnover is around £35 million per annum, we employ some 800 staff, and support around 13,000 students.

You will help deliver our aspirations through responsibility for all aspects of our finances, including reporting, budgeting, forecasting and decision-making. You and your team will deliver excellence in our core financial processes and reporting, and your expertise will help drive sustainable improvements in the College's financial and business performance.

About You

To apply for the role, you will be a fully qualified accountant (ACA/ ACCA/ CIMA/ CIPFA) with experience of leading and managing a finance team.

You will be a

strong accountant with developed financial reporting, management accounting and financial modelling capability. Critically, you will also have the skills and desire to help colleagues across the College improve financial and business performance and to shape our ongoing financial strategy.

The successful candidate will combine strong all-round technical skills with business acumen, empathy for the College's mission, and the personal gravitas to influence at all levels in the organsition.

You will be able to successfully interpret complex data and present it to non-finance stakeholders in an engaging and effective manner.

A strong communicator and team leader, you will have the ability to motivate your department and to inspire confidence in our senior management team and Governors.

You will combine drive and ambition with first-class people skills allied to firm technical foundations.

You may have worked in a further education college, perhaps as a Head of or Director of Finance. If you haven't worked in a college before though, that's fine. Colleges are unique. We combine charitable, public policy and commercial objectives within a single organisation. Your skills and personal attributes, together with a willingness to learn, are the most important things. Our people have incredibly diverse backgrounds, so whether your experience is in business and industry, or education and the wider public sector, this is an excellent opportunity to provide strategic and operational leadership for your own finance function.

About Us

The College is home to 13,000 students across four main campuses in Trowbridge, Chippenham, Lackham and Salisbury. We offer a diverse range of apprenticeships as well as a full suite of full-time vocational and higher education courses.

We offer a fantastic salary, 35 days leave, plus bank holidays, additional closure days over the Christmas period as well as access to our generous pension scheme - all this plus you will join a supportive and welcoming team.

The College is committed to the protection of young people and vulnerable adults and to safeguarding and Prevent and promoting the welfare of learners and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We are proudly accredited to the Disability Confident Employer award, part of this means a commitment to interview all disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria for a job vacancy and consider them on their abilities.
