Do you have current or recent, senior level audit, accountancy or finance experience and a sound understanding of audit, risk management, internal control and corporate governance processes? We are looking for someone interested in applying their skills and expertise to the work of our Audit Committee as an Independent External Member.
The role - The Coleg Gwent Board of Governors is responsible for providing strategic leadership and setting the educational character and mission of the college. With an annual turnover of c£58m, it is also responsible for ensuring long-term financial sustainability, budget setting, the effective use of public funds, ensuring value for money and protecting the college's assets. The Audit Committee has an essential role in this, monitoring internal controls, risk management, governance and compliance.
The committee meets 4 times a year and is made up of four Governors a nd two Independent External Members who provide an additional layer of independent scrutiny to its work. As well as relevant skills and experience you will need integrity, strong personal and professional values and experience of leadership . An eye for detail and the ability to provide constructive challenge and ask difficult questions are essential. As a member of the Audit Committee you'll receive an induction and have the opportunity to attend wider college events and occasional strategy meetings with the Board members and Senior Leadership Team.
