Position Summary:

Working within Thermo Fisher Scientific's Specialty Diagnostic Group, for the Microbiology Division (MBD), this role provides a fantastic opportunity for a finance professional with manufacturing experience who is looking to join a global organization that supports individuals to develop and achieve their best. The objective of this role is to support the Operations Finance Manager for the Microbiology Division (MBD) manufacturing sites in Dartford and East Grinstead, with a strong bias towards on business partnering with the operational team.

The job holder would work closely with the management teams at both sites. This would involve exposure to multiple operational and manufacturing issues within the business that would prepare the job holder for future career development within Thermo Fisher Scientific.

The role will be based at the Dartford facility but regular travel to the East Grinstead site will be required. Occasional travel to other MBD sites may also be required.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide timely, relevant and accurate reporting & analysis of the results of the division's performance against historical, budgeted, forecasted results to facilitate decision-making toward the achievement of the budget and strategic plan
  • Analysis of business and financial data to identify opportunities and drive corrective action for adverse variances.
  • Handle and finalize routine month end and period close financial and reporting processes in line with the corporate deadlines and guidelines
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly MBD financial reporting & bridge commentary and weekly operational reporting
  • Business partnering with operational management by providing operations accounting, product costing, cost centre review & inventory control
  • Support the delivery of material cost and overhead cost analysis (Cost Roll Process)
  • Analyse monthly and quarterly performance, with particular focus on KPIs and variance analysis against Plan, Prior Quarter & Prior Year
  • Assist in the preparation of annual site budgets (AOP) and periodic forecasts
  • Assist in financial audits, internal audits and tax reporting processes
  • Contribute to financial models for capital investment appraisals and support business case proposals
  • Continuous Kaizen focus looking for efficiency improvements
  • Broader business mindset to partner with non-finance team members, enabling them to understand financial impact of their business decisions
  • Ad hoc projects as required


Minimum Requirements / Qualifications:
  • CIMA / ACCA / ACA qualified / part qualified
  • Undergraduate or higher
  • Clear communication skills, written and verbal, including presentation skills and the ability to effectively communicate
  • Deep knowledge of P&L, balance sheet, working capital drivers and cash flow
  • Microsoft Office (heavy Excel emphasis)
  • Hands on experience with working on cost accounting in SAP and financial reporting in Hyperion
  • Relevant work experience
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-moving environment
  • Being able to drive and deliver results with intensity and rigor, through effective business partnering with non-finance colleagues
  • Experience of working and comfortable in communicating with key functional stakeholders to Director level
  • Flexible and pro-active mindset to adapt to changing business needs
  • Desire for career advancement within Thermo Fisher Scientific


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Exposure to performance measurement of continuous improvement business practices
  • Familiar with using Power BI
