Location: DWS
Hours: 8.0 hours per day, 5 days a week, 12 months per year
Salary: Entry Range 16, Step 1: $20.82 per hour
ACCOUNTANT III
Position Summary:
Employees occupying this position perform complex accounting functions involving the preparation, processing, classification, reconciliation and maintenance of financial and statistical records and ledgers. This is the advanced accountant position. An Accountant III performs more complex accounting functions independently; performs duties which require judgment, discretion, and a broader knowledge and understanding of governmental accounting, clerical procedures, rules and controls involved; and may supervise Accountants I and II.
Qualifications:Knowledge of accounting principles, expenditures, encumbrances and budget documents. Skill in ledger maintenance and adjustments. Familiarity with current office technology such as computers on a network, word processing software applications, and e-mail systems. Skill in use of financial accounting system software. Knowledge of supervision fundamentals. High school graduate or equivalent and prefer 3 years of experience in accounting. Ability to work well with public, students, staff and parents. Ability to maintain confidentiality of students, staff, school business, materials, and information. Must possess a valid State of Alaska motor vehicle operator's license with no insurance restrictions. Ability to safely, regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Responsibilities:Pre-audit a variety of expenditure and encumbrance accounts and documents. Maintain, adjust and assign general ledger accounts and subsidiary ledgers. Verify contents of batch and error listings. Assist payroll accountant in various stages of payroll preparation and verification of completed payroll. Trace discrepancies and prepare adjusting documents to correct errors. Assist with or prepare financial and budget reports for various state and federal grants. Maintain proper files for audit. Assist with preparation of schedules and financial statements for year-end audit. Provide training on School District financial programs. Work with staff to ensure that internal procedures are followed. Maintain confidentiality of students, staff, school business, materials, and information. Other duties as assigned from time to time.
