About the role

As one of the largest Business Schools in the Asia Pacific region, the College of Business and Law is comprised of six schools - five in Melbourne and one in Vietnam - delivering a broad range of programs in Business, ranging from Certificates up to PHD levels.

The Head of Department is an integrated leadership and management role in the School of Accounting, Information Systems and Supply Chain. The role is responsible for strategic and academic leadership and for driving learning and teaching quality, research relevance and industry engagement for the discipline. This includes being accountable for program quality, relevance and compliance of the School's academic programs and courses.

In addition, the Head of Department is a key member of the School executive and contributes at a senior level to the strategic planning and development of the School. The incumbent is required to work collaboratively with all members of the School's academic and professional staff to ensure that the School achieves its strategic objectives within the context of the overall College and University objectives.

About you

  • You will have a PhD or demonstrated equivalence in an Accounting discipline.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience in initiating, leading and managing academic teams and projects in a collegiate environment to deliver strategic objectives.
  • Demonstrated capacity to think strategically and to act tactically based on organisational priorities and objectives.
  • Demonstrated high level of interpersonal, communication and negotiating skills including the ability to liaise with senior executives and external bodies.
  • Demonstrated understanding of financial management, academic management and good governance in a University context.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing learning and teaching leadership and expertise that contributes to improved student outcomes.
  • Substantial record of academic, research and professional achievement in an area relevant to the discipline, and the capacity to exercise academic leadership to enhance the standing of the School nationally and internationally.
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to key College strategic priorities including: praxis (integrated, practice led, industry-engaged, teaching and research); and cross-disciplinary academic collaboration which delivers meaningful outcomes for our students and external stakeholders.
Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children check.
