The EY Ireland Head of Finance will be accountable for all Finance activity within Ireland, leading all legal, statutory and regulatory reporting functions pertinent to Finance, in a partnership model within EY’s UK&I Geography.
The opportunity:
The successful candidate will act as the Head of Finance for EY Ireland, leading a high-performing team of Finance professionals, and being the primary Finance point of contact for the ROI Board, RoI business leadership, UK&I Regional Finance Lead, Global Finance Delivery leaders and third-party Finance Service Delivery providers. The role will lead and be accountable for the local Accounting & Controlling function, Planning budgeting and forecasting function and markets finance reporting to the ROI COO and also forming part of the UK&I Geography Finance Leadership Team
The role drives the creation of business success by directly supporting business leadership through leading the delivery of statutory and regulatory accounting and wider controlling functions, supporting growth through strong management and understanding of the firm’s financial position and performance.
The candidate will deliver this by:
- End-to-end leadership and governance of the Accounting processes for EY Ireland, enabled by maintaining an effective controls environment
- Partnering with RoI business leaders and being the focal point for all Finance related support
- Leadership of the RoI Finance team across multiple Finance functions, including but not limited to Accounting, Controlling, Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting and Markets Finance delivering on time and to the highest standards
- Accountability for the management and delivery of local Controlling functions, inclusive and not limited to AP, AR and GL, Tax, Treasury and Markets Finance
- Building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships with Partners, client teams, Service Line Leadership and the Finance team;
- Partnering with and advising the local Business Leadership Team on projects related to local statutory and regulatory accounting and transactional accounting matters across Ireland
- Synthesising and communicating detailed financial information to inform business decisions;
- Introducing frameworks for key financial processes in order to optimise account margin performance; and
- Managing a sizeable team, ensuring that all your direct reports are aligned to the firm’s vision for the Finance function
The successful candidate will:
- Plan and drive the delivery of the statutory and regulatory accounting requirements of EY Ireland
- Ensure accounting policies are reviewed regularly and controls are appropriate to ensure risks are mitigated and policies are adhered to
- Collaborate and manage relationships with UK&I Geography finance leadership, local delivery teams and third-party service providers for seamless delivery and champion leading practices
- Support UK&I Geography finance leadership through the provision of advice to projects regarding Tax and local Statutory Accounting matters, as well as proactive management of Finance risk
- Partner with broader Finance function leaders and subject matter resources to maintain control and currency through robust governance of Finance processes and policies
- Leverage internal and external Finance insights to provide strategic input and leadership to decisions affecting operations of the local firm
- Have a strong commercial mindset and a significant understanding of wider Finance functions,
- Lead projects relating Tax and Statutory Accounting matters across the region, as well as proactive management of Finance risk
- Be the key contact within the region for statutory accounts team, internal audit and external auditors
- Provide ad hoc information as required by external stakeholders (for example Competition and Markets Authority review, Transparency Report and Pension Trustees)
- Ownership of all aspects of treasury management, including management of banking facilities and relationships
- Management of the partner tax timetable and process
- Prepare and coordinate the plan for other charges and regular review of this area during the year. Provision of detailed information around Total Income and Other charges by unit and profit pool to enable the submission of the Allocable Income
- Leverage internal and external Finance insights and knowledge to provide strategic input and leadership to decisions affecting operations of the region
- Own the business continuity plan for all areas of responsibility
- Support the development and execution of Finance’s people proposition in all areas of responsibility, inclusive of the attraction and retention of diverse and inclusion talent to build and retain a high performing team
- Further drive the pursuit of continuous improvement, including active participation in UK&I and Business Unit Finance transformational initiatives
- Provide ad-hoc support as needed by COO and Irish leadership team
- The ability to operate effectively in a matrix organisation, meeting the expectations of the internal and external customers of Finance as well as the Region and Global Management and Finance teams.
- Excellent attention to detail, with a proven ability to deliver to requirements under the tightest scrutiny and short timelines
- Able to promote a transformation mindset and drive continuous improvement and adherence to standardised ways of working
- Strong understanding of the Financial characteristics of a Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) model and the associated local legal, statutory, and reporting implications
- Strong communication, analytical and presentation skills with proven ability to lead and drive change
- Experience leading and / or counselling team members through the resolution of complex business challenges
- A qualification from and be a member and/or fellow of a recognised accountancy institute
- An expert understanding of local statutory and regulatory reporting requirements and the processes, tools and skills needed to meet these
- A proven ability to lead Finance teams delivering high quality and timely outputs
- Great people skills, directing and maintaining a high performing team to deliver on local accounting regulations as well as continuous improvement projects
- Experience delivering accounting responsibilities within a complex business model
- A relevant business degree
- 10+ years’ experience in an accounting, controlling, or related roles
- A strong working knowledge of the statutory and regulatory requirements in Ireland
- Controlling experience within a partnership structure within Ireland
