In a nutshell:
This is a varied and challenging role sitting within the Commercial Operations Finance Team. The wider team business partners with all aspects of the Commercial Operations and Strategy Division, as well as being involved with a number of commercial projects across food and non-food trading. This role is responsible for business partnering relationships with specific individuals across Commercial Operations (primarily Argos Republic of Ireland, and GM&C strategy), but will also work on various projects across the entire Group as required. This role is well suited to someone who doesn't mind working in a changing environment, with ad hoc projects making up the vast majority of the workload.
What I need to do:
Business partner with the Commercial Strategy Team, in particular Argos Republic of Ireland and the GM&C strategy team, but also on many wider projects cutting across the entire Sainsbury's Group, for example business partnering with various Brexit related working groups.
Work with the Argos ROI leadership team to deliver on ambitious long term growth initiatives, including delivery of significant capital expenditure in the medium term to bring the business in line with its UK equivalent.
Work with stakeholders from the ADA team and the Cost to Serve team to ensure timely delivery of daily, weekly, and period management information to the ROI team, as well as facilitating periodic forecasting and annual budgeting processes.
Creation of board packs to go to COLT (Commercial Operations Leadership Team) meetings summarising periodic performance vs budget and CRM along with commentary.
Work closely with the other Trading Finance teams, supporting the sharing of best practice and collaborative working to deliver consistent and effective business partnering across both brands. The Trading Finance Business partners will be the key enablers to support the delivery of many projects, so providing good actionable insight will be key to delivering the program
Co-ordinate and/or complete adhoc work for a wide range of new projects drawing together resource and knowledge from across the function e.g. new opportunity business cases.
Deputise for the Senior Finance Manager - Commercial Operations where appropriate.
What you need to know and show:
Professionally Qualified Accountant (CIMA/ACA/ACCA) or equivalent
Excellent interpersonal, communication, written and numeracy skills
Demonstrate a strong aptitude for business partnering, and an ability to deal with a variety of stakeholders
Possess excellent excel and PowerPoint skills
Ability to work under pressure - providing accurate, high quality work, often at short timescales and with imperfect information
Effective prioritisation and confidence to challenge stakeholders' priorities where appropriate
Strategic perspective - understanding of the wider issues impacting corporate performance
What I need to know:
Qualified accountant with indicative 1-10 years post-qualification experience
Strong commercial acumen, curiosity beyond traditional finance boundaries and ability to understand key business drivers
Ability to present complex information in a simplified manner
Creative and solution-focused
Strong analytical skills, Excel & Access skills and attention to detail
Sound coaching and team leadership and development skills
Track record of value creation
What I need to show:
Fantastic inter-personal skills and an empathetic nature
Enthusiastic, positive and proactive engagement of key stakeholders to build credible relationships whilst retaining professional integrity
Significant experience managing, influencing and challenging a large and complex set of stakeholders, holding others accountable
Significant experience in presenting to and communicating with senior Finance and non-Finance stakeholders
Strong team leadership and management/supervisory skills and experience in leading and developing a team with a wide variation in experience levels, abilities and deliverables
Resilience (flexible and able to cope with time pressure, risk & ambiguity)
Significant experience in a business-facing Finance role
A track record of driving value accretion and continuous improvement
Experience in a large company environment, preferably retail (desired)
A desire to achieve best in class business partnering
A desire for continuous improvement to be best in class
Strong planning and prioritisation skills
Resources available to me:
Commercial Development Finance Analyst
Collaborative working to utilise resource and experience within FP&A COE: specifically, within the Reporting and Forecasting team for day-to-day reporting and accounting, as well as the Financial Accounting, Analytics and 2 x Trading Finance teams
