Manager, Treasury (Securitization)

The Manager, Treasury (Securitization) position at Manulife Bank (MBC) offers an opportunity for a strong finance and treasury professional to grow and demonstrate banking expertise in a supportive and diverse environment.

As a member of the Treasury Team and reporting to the AVP, Assistant Treasurer, you will be exposed to virtually all aspects of banking, including: mortgage securitization, liquidity risk management, cash management and treasury operations, GIC and mortgage pricing, retail and wholesale funding strategy, and asset/liability management.

The immediate focus of this position will be supporting Manulife Banks public and private securitization programs, which are an important funding source for the bank. The successful candidate will utilize their specialized finance expertise, financial knowledge and skills to support the continued growth and expansion of the banks securitization strategy.

Securitization responsibilities will include deal structuring, legal contract reviews, investor relationship management, audit support, NHA MBS and CMB program support, & collateral performance reporting.

Key Accountabilities:

As part of MBCs treasury team, the Manager, Treasury (Securitization) position is a dynamic role where responsibilities will rotate periodically to support various functional areas and leaders within the team. The immediate focus of this role includes:
  • Execute the banks securitization strategy by working collaboratively with internal and external securitization partners.
  • Provide securitization related analysis to support the structuring of securitization transactions
  • Conduct securitization collateral pool monitoring, and performance forecast modelling
  • Maintain a Securitization Management Guide that consolidates all Securitization related policies, regulations, and procedures.
  • Develop strong working relationships with Securitization Lawyers, Dealers, Rating Agencies, & Regulators
  • Work with Rating Agencies (S&P, DBRS, Moody's) to achieve desired ratings on new securitization deals, and provide information required to maintain in force ratings on existing transactions.
  • Support the development of new private securitization programs (RMBS, Covered Bonds) and continue to expand the banks use of government backed securitization programs (NHA MBS, CMB)
  • Collaborating with the securitization accounting team, ensure upgrades to the securitization administration system go smoothly, with proper documentation and testing. Resolving all escalated issues.
  • Work with the portfolio insurance area to develop well thought out strategies for the use of limited mortgage insurance allocations.
  • Support the management, oversight, and day-to-day operations of the NHA MBS and CMB programs, including NHA MBS and CMB issuance, and the CMB reinvestment process.
  • Stay well informed of current industry developments and relevant regulatory initiatives and ensure readiness to achieve compliance with new regulations.

Other accountabilities/opportunities, on a rotational basis, may include, but are not limited to:
  • Analyze and closely monitor the spreads and liquidity of Canadian and international wholesale markets
  • Assess current market conditions to form strategies and recommend actions to take regarding wholesale funding options
  • Closely monitor the investments portfolio of the Bank and recommend strategies to improve the performance of the portfolio.
  • Participate in strategic initiatives that will expand the Banks product and service offerings
  • Actively take part in ALCO and Pricing Committee meetings and processes
  • Ensure efficient functioning of Treasury hedging function by providing administrative and strategic support while effectively partnering with internal and external parties.
  • Lead, mentor and coach a team of high performing analysts
  • Work with the Treasury team to increase departmental efficiency through automation
  • Provide backup and support to the treasury operations during vacations and busy periods


Knowledge/Skills/Competencies/Education:

  • Undergraduate or Post Graduate University degree in a financial discipline with 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Prior experience in supporting securitization transactions
  • Previous work experience in Treasury and/or Finance within the banking industry is a strong asset
  • Proficient in data analytics using advanced Excel features, and programing/coding skills (e.g. SQL, SAS, Python, Business Objects) are definite assets
  • Must have very strong quantitative, analytical and financial analysis skills
  • Accuracy, attention to detail and sound judgment
  • Strong business acumen with a good understanding of the business environment in order to provide meaningful analysis
  • A team player with demonstrated ability to effectively manage internal relationships by collaborating within the department and across business units
  • Experience in prioritizing and managing multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to deal with internal/external customers and senior management
