We have an exciting opportunity for a talented Deputy Finance Director to join our team based at our Campus in Cambridge. This is a full-time, permanent position and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £45,000 to £51,000 p.a., plus benefits (based on skills and experience).

About the role:

Working closely with the Director of Finance, our Deputy Finance Director will be responsible for ensuring that financial reporting information produced by the College is timely, transparent, and accurate, to enable clear financial management of the college. This is a vital role that will provide both support to the Director of Finance, together with operational management of key parts of the College's Finance services, resulting in the delivery of efficient services to support the College vision.

Our Deputy Finance Director will have various responsibilities, including:

- Managing a group of staff members, identifying their development needs, organising appropriate training and deploying staff

- Consistently complying with financial regulations, policies, and procedures and assisting in the implementation and operation of the financial regulations and policies business-wide

- Ensuring the timely and accurate development and use of the college financial reporting system

- Developing training guides for users (Finance specific and for non-finance colleagues, e.g. budget holders)

- Providing training to the business (with support)

- Ensuring aged debtors are reconciled

- Developing and monitoring KPI's

- Overseeing the month-end close to ensure all close-downs are complete and accounts are accurate

- Reviewing and signing off all balance sheet reconciliations and ensuring anomalies are reported to the Director of Finance and any required amendments are processed

- Preparing the annual financial statements and Members Report

- Responsible for reviewing detailed annual budget file and reconciling to the top-level budget

- Overseeing Purchase Ledger Management

- Controlling capital expenditure in line with authorised capital budget

What we are looking for in our ideal Deputy Finance Director:

- ACA, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA qualified

- Extensive relevant experience in financial management

- Previous experience of managing a team

- Prepared to be flexible with hours worked at busy periods (month end accounting and year-end/audit)

- A detailed understanding of financial control processes, statutory reporting and statutory audit

- Appreciation of general VAT legislation

- Previous performance management experience including experience of appraisal/target setting regimes

- A commitment to improving both quality and efficiency

- Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and vulnerable adults

- Previous experience of working successfully with managers in external agencies

- Commitment to equality & diversity
