Position Description
As a Cost Accounting Manager, you will be responsible for working within the framework of a team and performing the following activities:
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing process for the costing and inventory modules and ensure accuracy of various system and manually generated transactions/entries
- Prepare and review various inventory and cost accounting entries and account reconciliations
- Provide fluctuation analysis explanations for various components of worldwide gross margins for both domestic operations and foreign subsidiaries
- Review manufacturing variances and work with operations teams to reduce these variances
- Provide accurate and timely inventory and costing reports to the operations teams in order to support the company's continuous improvement approach
- Analyze standard costs and review the standard cost roll-ups for new products and new production operations and investigate/resolve large variances prior to finalization of rolling standards
- Work with operations teams to analyze inventory for potential excess and obsolete reserves and make related entries in accordance with the company's policies
- Interact with internal/external auditors and provide various analysis and audit schedules and work to ensure compliance with all internal control procedures
- Provide management oversight to the cost accounting team, on a daily basis, and provide timely informal feedback and coaching
- Provide ongoing performance monitoring through the creation of annual reviews
Position Requirements
This position requires the following skills and attributes:
- 4 year degree in Accounting or Finance (with emphasis in Accounting)
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience using a "standard cost" model in a manufacturing industry
- Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing variances, overhead absorption and standard costs
- Detailed experience with inventory and COGS accounts reconciliations and related accounting
- Experience with month-end closing and working in a fast paced environment
- Excellent computer skills including advanced MS Excel (e.g. Pivot Tables, V-LookUps, data merges, filters, and if statements) and MS Word experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate with a variety of other functional areas including operations, material planning and warehouse teams
- A minimum of 2-3 years of hands-on management experience including overseeing and supervising cost accounts
- Experience with inventory cycle count process
