Nature of Work:
Jobs in this career family provide the accounting and financial activities for the University. Functions include grants and contracts, ICR account, gift accounts, purchasing of lab equipment and oversight of equipment contracts, ensuring that the Division budgets are maintained and faculty and staff funding allocations are appropriate. Responsible for overseeing the financial functions throughout the Division. The successful candidate will oversees daily processing and accounting for revenue and expenditures for the division; reviews and reports financial transactions to funding sources; ensures accuracy, completeness, and compliance with university, local, state, and federal requirements, and standard accounting and audit procedures. This position is responsible for coordinating the Post Award Management and all associated financial reporting for the Division. This role will work closely with the Division Administrator (Business Services Director) in order to educate and enforce Fiscal related policies and procedures, and develop effective working relationships with internal and external entities.
Senior Professionals are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. Work is performed fully independently.
Secondary responsibilities will include back up to the Pre-award coordinator and back-up to the Human Resources Coordinator.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This position provides critical senior level financial support to the Division of Pulmonary Sciences and Critical Care Medicine and will be responsible for preparing divisional budgets, monitoring and correcting actual expenses and addressing budget variances, creating and monitoring divisional commitment reports, monthly divisional financial reports and determining cause of budget variances and cash deficits, monitoring and reconciling all divisional financial transactions, and reviewing and approving divisional transactions. This position serves as a resource for all faculty and staff within the division.
Examples of Work Performed
- Takes appropriate action (JE, PET, etc) to correct any deficits or accounting errors in accordance with University and Departmental policies.
- Prepares monthly divisional all funds financial statements
- Determines cause of budget variances and cash deficits in divisional financials
- Work with divisions to develop corrective actions that relates to accounts that are either overspent or working with Faculty with funding deficits to resolve them.
- Provides general guidance to educational program manager to develop budget, obtain justification with educational program manager to create divisional education budget, obtains justification for increases, monitors actual activity, reports budget variances
- Prepares ad hoc financial reports, which include monthly CU Medicine operating, enrichment and contract roll up reports
- Serves as backup for divisional human resources functions, which includes writing letters of offer, posting open positions on University website, and assisting with faculty promotions
- Prepare journal entries and PETS, review monthly financial reports, making adjustments as needed
- Prepares divisional budgets, monitors on monthly basis, budget variances and makes necessary corrections, and informs leadership of any unfavorable variances
- Responsible for review and approval of procurement transactions, payroll transactions, incentive payouts, and malpractice letters
- Ensures that all CU Foundation accounts contain proper division and manager titles, requests/monitors changes as needed
- Provide guidance and expertise on University of Colorado and CU Medicine policies to faculty and staff
- Serve as backup procurement card approver
- Monitors, updates, and approves all funding distributions for divisional funding distributions
- Manage the moving expense reimbursement process for all new faculty, including laboratory and personal moving expenses.
- Calculate faculty monthly incentives using revenue cycle and scheduling data
- Monitor start-up packages for faculty members
- Assist with CFTE reporting and analysis
- Other duties as assigned
Salary and Benefits:
The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $47,919 - $60,953.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting or closely related field
- 3 years of related financial experience
Substitution: Related experience may substitute for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
*Required: Candidate must meet the minimum requirements at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA license
- Master's Degree MBA, MPA, MPH or related
- 5 years of relevant professional experience
- Prior experience working in a university and or health care setting
- Experience working with University of Colorado business applications (ex. PeopleSoft Finance & HCM, COGNOS, InfoEd, Concur, Marketplace, WebSpace, etc.).
- Prior grants management expereince

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong accounting and analytical skills required
- Ability to interpret and apply contract terms and condition to spending within the University system and policy.
- Understand the unique processes involved in the overall research effort and possess the ability to comprehend the needs of the individual researchers.
- Demonstrated progressively responsible management experience in research administration, forecasting, and financial management and budgeting.
- Intermediate knowledge of the regulatory issues associated with the administration of federal, state and private foundation grants (e.g. HIPAA and human subjects' protection, Conflict of Interest, Office of Grants and Contracts, and university policies and procedures).
- Knowledge of the research grant application and funded-grant processes, which includes knowledge of mechanisms and requirements of various research grant application processes.
- Effective presentation and communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to interact constructively with management, academic and other professionals with varied interests and perspectives who are involved in research project planning.
- The ability to develop and maintain strong relations with faculty and staff based on mutual trust and respect
- Ability to manage multiple assignments under tight deadlines
- Demonstrate professionalism, a strong work ethic, commitment to high standards, integrity, stability, and accountability
- Must be a team player but able to work independently
- Proficient in Excel and
- Strong analytical skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of PeopleSoft Financial software and University of Colorado financial systems.
- Ability to ensure that all aspects of the grant criteria and subcontract agreements have been addressed over the life of the grant/contract.
