Band 7 Capital Accountant - Finance

UCLH has a large number of high value capital and strategic projects. The role of the capital accountant is key to the effective development, planning and ongoing monitoring of those projects. The capital accountant will provide a level of technical challenge key to effective and timely strategic decision making. This is a vital role within the finance team and spans both financial accounts and the capital projects team.

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive Capital Accounting Function (including IFRS 16 Lease accounting) within the Financial Accounts team including all policies, procedures and tasks relating to capital governance and non-current asset accounting. The post holder will be responsible for the monthly reporting of capital expenditure and preparation of supporting documents for all budgeting and monitoring forms.

The post holder will provide professional expert guidance, especially in the development of Capital bids, and where necessary challenge assumptions held to ensure the development of robust financial information, plans and forecasts. This will include identifying areas of financial risk within the Boards and across the Trust and to work proactively to ensure that other staff are aware of these risks and work to manage them, which will include provision of information on what constitutes capital expenditure.

The post holder will support the Trust's Board and other executive committees in managing the Trust's capital resources effectively in order to deliver high quality care for patients. In addition, the post holder will act as the primary liaison for external stakeholders, such as auditors, HMRC and VAT advisors; ensuring that the capital projects within the Trust receive and maintain a professional profile in order to engender confidence in the function.

The post is advertised as a 12 month fixed term post, but would also suite as a secondment for candidates keen to broaden their experience in a challenging and technically specialist role.
