Fixed-term: Appointment will be made on a fixed-term basis of 1 year to undertake transitional duties pending re-organisation.
University Information Services (UIS) is looking to appoint a self-starting and highly skilled Finance Manager to join the existing finance team.
The department offers the University a wide range of IT Services from networks and email, to high-performance research computing and highly specialist technology solutions. The role holder will be at the heart of our efforts to ensure we deliver these services in an efficient and cost-effective manner, while adhering to the relevant financial processes and procedures.
The primary focus of the role is to be responsible for leading and co-ordinating the monthly and year-end accounting processes, along with the day-to-day maintenance of UIS financial data, controls and processes. The role holder will act as a key financial accounting contact at UIS, not only working with UIS staff and the central university finance function, but also liaising with university departments, colleges and affiliates, as well as suppliers and customers external to the University.
Working closely with the Head of Finance, the successful candidate will be involved in budget setting and forecasting variance analysis, financial planning and forecasting activity, committee-servicing, as well as undertaking high-level problem solving and project work. The role holder will provide key data that underpins our service costing and annual planning, but will also support the improvement of our internal financial management and forecasting for services and projects.
We are ideally looking for a qualified accountant or someone qualified by experience. The role holder will have demonstrable experience of presenting financial information to non-financial colleagues at a senior level and be confident in the use of financial accounting packages and Microsoft Office applications, including Excel. The successful candidate will be organised, a proactive problem solver and an effective communicator of financial accounting matters.
Applications are welcome from internal candidates who would like to apply for the role on the basis of a secondment from their current role in the University.
