Our client is a global insurance firm with international presence and offices and is an established brand in the market.

Description
  • Oversees preparation of, reviews and approves local tax provisions and tax returns. Ensures that returns are timely, accurate, and compliant with applicable laws and regulations. Responds to inquiries or resolves escalated issues as required to ensure that deadlines are met via an efficient and effective process; identifies systemic issues or inefficiencies and proposes new processes, procedures, or system changes to enhance effectiveness or prevent future issues.


  • Participates on interdisciplinary finance project teams to develop or enhance systems, processes, and protocols as the tax specialist within the business unit. This includes contributions to requirements gathering, planning, testing, documentation, implementation, and training phases. Acts as tax resource to other areas including Global Mobility, Benefits, Payroll, Underwriting and Finance.


  • Ensures comprehensive understanding of tax rules in the region. Identifies potential tax risks as well as opportunities. Develops strategies and presents to the management.


  • Establish tax requirements for new international business entities, making sure that requirements are understood, that new entities are correctly set up in the financial systems, and that appropriate contacts are engaged to ensure compliance with policy, as well as relevant laws and regulations; may include liaison with tax authorities to understand requirements, respond to inquiries or resolve processing errors.


  • Ensures transfer pricing requirements are met and appropriate documentation is in place.


  • Support tax audit defense. Attends meetings, formulates arguments, provides support and makes recommendations.


Profile

Education:
  • A bachelor's degree in Accountancy or equivalent;


  • Professional certification (CPA, CAN, CIA, CISA etc);


  • Good knowledge of GAAP, SAP and good understanding of financial systems.


Experience:

  • At least 8 years of relevant experience in corporate tax and/or insurance tax preferred, but not required.


  • Experience in implementing regulatory changes, specific to Asia Pacific countries would be an added advantage.


Skills/Knowledge:

  • Excellent written and communication skills in English;


  • Ability to contribute to a team, make firm decisions and express well considered opinions;


  • Meticulous, independent and able to work under pressure;


  • Able to operate to a large degree of flexibility and an ability to think out of the box;


  • Good in multi-tasking and time management;


  • Ability to successfully work in and adapt to a variety of cultures in a fast moving internal/external environment whilst learning on the job.
