We are recruiting for a Finance Manager to support our Online Logistics Team, where you will be responsible for the accurate planning and reporting of the financial performance of the ecommerce distribution network (both for online and stores) and ensuring all levels of management have a full understanding of the financial impact of the business decisions made.

Our depot in Castle Donnington is currently the only warehouse distributing from our online site, and one of the biggest automated garment sites in the UK, moving close to 100 million units per annum. Volumes are expected to increase further, making this role crucial to executing online growth and cost management crucial in post Covid world.

You will be supporting the management team in the identification and delivery of cost saving initiatives, as well as challenging the management team at all levels to support the delivery. You'll play a vital role ensuring the balance is maintained between cost and service.

Ideally, we are looking for someone with knowledge of an online warehousing or manufacturing environment, who will be able to proactively drive change and relish in the challenge of our ambitious plans.

About the role

Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Building a strong relationship with key business partners including the Head of Castle Donington and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT)
  • Developing a detailed understanding of the site, being able to credibly present and debate the financial performance to drive continuous improvement in the understanding of the link between financial and operational performance
  • Leading delivery of the three-year plan, annual operating plan and quarterly forecasts
  • Directly responsible for management of month end operating costs, which include posting of journals, investigating and reconciling costs
  • Providing insightful business analysis and advice to improve commercial decision making
  • Maintaining all financial controls established within the ecommerce distribution network to ensure continued compliance to M&S financial policies and procedures
  • Identifying and developing cost saving initiatives across all areas of the ecommerce distribution network
  • Actively participating in achieving overall objectives of the site management team and the M&S finance team
  • Maintaining and developing financial controls to ensure continued compliance to M&S financial policies and procedures including group investment policy and accounting manual
  • Identifying and communicating risks and opportunities within the business on a continuous basis

About you

Your skills and experience will include:
  • Qualified or part qualified Accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA).
  • Commercial awareness and experience working within an operational environment
  • Ability to work closely with and influence non-financial individuals
  • Ability to challenge operational managers at all levels to translate operational efficiency into financial impact
  • Ability to provide credible support to non-financial managers within the business.
  • Good IT knowledge and literacy
  • Strong team player but also happy to work independently on own initiative
  • Willingness to challenge the status and ability to manage change
