Position Summary:
Thermo Fisher Scientific has an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and driven qualified Accountant to join their existing team based in Paisley. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a centre of excellence in an organisation considered a global leader in its field.
The position is in the Accounting and Reporting team of our European Centre of Excellence. The centre provides financial controllership in the region for two of the Thermo Fisher Scientific groups - Life Sciences Solutions and Special Diagnostics. We are responsible for a large number of entities reporting a total of $2 Billion of revenue per year.
The successful candidate must be prepared to take ownership of migration project related work assigned to them to support the team working on the transition of a number of entities from sites across Germany to the GBS Centre of Excellence in in Paisley. Deliver accurate and timely results to be reported both internally and externally.
You will be a highly motivated and detail oriented individual with excellent communication, computer and organisational skills relevant to the role. You must be high-potential and have the ability to prioritise and follow through in a fast-paced, multitask environment.
Responsibilities:
- Review, investigate or create balance sheet reconciliations
- Liaise with the business and drive the overall completion of balance sheet reconciliations to the expected standards to meet SOX requirements
Also support the team by:
- ensuring the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of monthly close activities
- Preparing and reviewing accounting entries, as well as evaluating entries for completeness and accuracy
- Reviewing general ledger activity, researching and correcting account discrepancies
- Assisting in maintenance of documentation of policies, procedures and controls. Ensure compliance with Corporate Accounting policies, procedures and controls (Sarbanes-Oxley Act)
- Performing variance analysis including current-to-prior month/quarter/year fluctuations
- Completing special projects as requested
Skills Required:
• Accuracy is required in performing all aspects of the role
• High level of proactivity to drive continuous improvement
• Deep technical accounting knowledge
• Working knowledge of US GAAP (Desired but not essential)
• Excellent communication skills to interact at various levels inside and outside the organisation
• Proficient in MS Excel
• Working knowledge of ERPs (SAP) (Desired but not essential)

• Qualified Accountant (CA, CIMA or ACCA)
