The opportunity

An exciting opportunity to work with a dynamic, growing team in the EY Innovation Incentives team, based throughout the UK. We are looking for a Manager level candidate to be based out of Birmingham or Reading.

The successful candidate will get the opportunity to work as part of the wider Business Tax Advisory group at EY, in a diverse team of highly successful tax and industry specialists. Serving a variety of very high-profile clients (FTSE 100 and 250 multinational companies), we support companies in claiming the R&D tax credits which were introduced by the government to encourage UK companies to invest in innovation.

You will be required to work closely with the finance & tax departments of our clients across different sectors and will be responsible for analysing and compiling the financial aspects of the R&D claim and ensuring compliance to tax legislation. You will play an active role in developing the tax aspects of the R&D reports for submission to HMRC and taking part in extensive client communication.

This role offers the benefits of working in a regional office whilst retaining the strong links to the National team. Successful applicants will be based primarily in the regional office but will work on projects for team members across the country in all sectors to support the team and further aid your career development.

Your key responsibilities:

  • To contribute to the efficient and successful delivery of R&D tax services to the client
  • Build and maintain tax relationships with clients and provide high levels of client service
  • Build relationships both within the firm and externally with clients, identifying opportunities and managing expectations
  • Contribute to winning new work by proactively managing existing clients and contribute to winning new clients.
  • Assist with the management and successful delivery of tax projects, ensuring technical excellence and practical/business driven approach taken
  • Responsible for day-to-day client liaison
  • Skills and attributes for success:

  • Experienced corporate or R&D tax practitioner
  • Proven ability to read and interpret existing and new tax statute
  • Team player; ability to integrate with new teams quickly
  • Outgoing with good relationship skills and the ability to deliver quality output
  • Strong technical skills and keen to develop further
  • Ability to build strong client relationships
  • Ability to identify areas of risk, carry out an effective review and know when to refer upwards
  • Relationship management skills with ability to manage client expectations
  • Ability to build effective relationships at all levels
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and pragmatically
  • To qualify for the role you must have:

  • ACA/CA/ACCA/CTA; or Tax Inspectors with full Technical Training Course
  • Strong Excel capability including use of VLOOKUP and IF functions and pivot tables, including manipulating large and complex datasets
  • Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Project management skills, plan and prioritize work, meet deadlines, monitor own budget
