The Deputy Director of Finance, Accounting reports through the Assistant Director of Finance to the Director of Finance, and is responsible for the Accounting Division's Financial Reporting, Special Accounting, Payroll and Accounts Payable activities. The Deputy Director also serves as controller for the City and supports the Assistant Director of Finance in ensuring that all departmental policies, procedures, and programs are carried out efficiently and effectively.

The City of San José is seeking a Deputy Director who possesses a deep understanding of municipal finance, especially in the area of governmental accounting. The ideal candidate is adept at financial forecasting and planning, pays attention to details while seeing the big picture and has experience leading positive change in a highly decentralized, large organization. The best-qualified candidates will be familiar with technology and applications that add value to operations and the customer experience. A thorough understanding of GAAP concepts and GASB requirements is necessary to succeed in this role.

Qualifying Education & Experience:

At minimum, the qualified candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, business, public administration or a related field, and six (6) years of increasingly responsible experience in at the senior level administrative or analytical work in a public or private agency. A minimum of four (4) years of supervisory experience also is required. A Master's degree or advanced certification, such as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation, is strongly preferred. Candidates from both the public sector and the private sector will be considered.

Salary: $124,012 - $193,173, DOQ, plus an attractive benefits package.
